To celebrate the arrival of the first “Hangzhou West Lake Day”, the “West Lake Seal Carving Art Exhibition” jointly organized by Hangzhou West Lake Scenic Area Management Committee and Xiling Printing Society was recently held at Jiangzhuang Ma Yifu Memorial Hall in Huagang, West Lake. The exhibition will last until July 1st.
This “West Lake Seal Cutting Art Exhibition” exhibited 40 exquisite works by 31 artists. Apart from classical seal cutting, traditional Chinese painting and calligraphy, among the works, the “Ten Scenery of West Lake” carved with arched flowers and wooden boards created by Huang Xiaojian, a national intangible cultural heritage inheritor, was more special. Mr. Huang studied hard for eight years, and recovered the skill of “carving flowers in a quilt”, which began in the late Ming Dynasty and was gradually lost. His works have been collected by the National Library of China, china agricultural museum, Hangzhou Museum of Arts and Crafts, Zhejiang Intangible Cultural Heritage Museum and other institutions and private collections. On behalf of the state, province and city, he has conducted international and domestic intangible cultural heritage project exchanges and taught many times. This time, his works exhibited in Ma Yifu Memorial Hall are also very much anticipated.
