Shanghai, March 26 (Xinhua) – The “1+8” City Museum Collaborative Development Cooperation Alliance in the Shanghai Metropolitan Area jointly launched the first exhibition of “Saving the World and the People – Modern Patriotic Practitioners in the Shanghai Metropolitan Area” on March 26, which opened at the Shanghai Museum of History.
Shanghai is the earliest place and window of modern Chinese industrial civilization, demonstrating its strong absorption and radiation capabilities towards the surrounding areas. Eight cities, including Wuxi, Changzhou, Suzhou, Nantong, Ningbo, Huzhou, Jiaxing, and Zhoushan, have achieved rapid economic development and profound social changes based on the rapidly rising Shanghai. In this process, a large number of patriotic industrialists uphold the belief of saving the country and serving the country through industry, strengthen enterprises, benefit the local area, give back to society, and share the worries of the country.
Zhang Jian, the “King of Flour” and “King of Cotton Yarn”, the Rong brothers, the “King of National Products” Fang Yexian, the “King of Coal” Liu Hongsheng, and the “King of Hardware” Ye Chengzhong, all of whom are responsible for the country, are the main objects of this exhibition. A total of 145 exhibits, including a large number of trademarks, receipts, advertisements, medals, and group photos of well-known time-honored enterprises, are exhibited in the area where the Shanghai metropolitan area is located today. Among them, 102 exhibits (sets) from Wuxi Museum, Changzhou Museum, Suzhou Museum, Nantong Museum, Ningbo Museum, Huzhou Museum, Jiaxing Museum, and Zhoushan Museum were exhibited for the first time in Shanghai.
Zhou Qunhua, Secretary of the General Party Branch and Curator of the Shanghai History Museum, said: “Patriotic industrialists serve the country with industry and save the country with industry. They show a strong feeling of family and country in Shanghai. We hope to pass on the spirit of industrialists and the cultural strength and spiritual connotation behind them to the public through the museum platform.” (End)
