The Memorial Hall of the Shaoxing Independent Branch of the Communist Party of China is located in Qixian Village, Qixian Street, Keqiao District.
During the “14th Five-Year Plan” period, Zhejiang Province plans to build 1,000 rural museums. Among them, no less than 400 are planned to be built in 2022. This year, Shaoxing’s “40 new rural museums in the city” were also included in the government work report. So, what is a village museum? What are the characteristics of the construction of rural museums in Shaoxing? How can rural museums contribute to the common prosperity of rural areas? The reporter conducted an investigative interview.
More than 200 village museums are located in the countryside of Vietnam
The Memorial Hall of the Shaoxing Independent Branch of the Communist Party of China in Qixian Village, Qixian Street, Keqiao District, the Hehu Native Culture Museum in Hehu Village, Doumen Street, Yuecheng District, and the Xu Ao Battle Memorial Hall in Xu Ao Village, Lingnan Township, Shangyu District…… These pavilions, located in the countryside, with different names and different exhibitions, will soon usher in a unified name – the Village Museum.
What is a Village Museum? The reporter learned that the so-called rural museum, that is, located in the countryside, inherits the excellent traditional Chinese culture, promotes the core values of socialism, and focuses on displaying, disseminating, collecting and inheriting regional history and culture, characteristic culture, revolutionary culture and rural production and life, intangible cultural heritage protection, and industrial development witnesses, which are open to the public and have the function of a cultural venue.
This year, Zhejiang Province plans to build no less than 400 rural museums, which will be included in the people’s livelihood projects, of which 26 in Shaoxing need to be completed. Recently, the reporter learned from the Shaoxing Municipal Bureau of Culture, Radio, Television and Tourism that Shaoxing plans to build 60 rural museums this year, more than the 40 mentioned in the government work report, and 26 of them will be reported to the province.
Shaoxing is at the forefront of the construction of the village museum. In 2021, Shaoxing proposed to build the “300 Project” of Shaoxing culture, planning to activate more than 100 former residences of celebrities, cultivate 100 rural museums, and upgrade 100 boutique libraries within three years. Last year, 10 village museums were already accepted.
Salvage celebrity culture, excavate red roots, and preserve nostalgic memories…… The village museum is not a new thing that has only emerged in the last two years. In the process of rural revitalization, rural museums have sprung up in Shaoxing and are widely distributed throughout the city. It is understood that at present, the city has established more than 200 rural museums, with an area of more than 80,000 square meters and more than 20,000 pieces of various collections. Now, they are being identified.
Among the many rural museums, the Hehu Folk Culture Museum in Hehu Village, Doumen Street, Yuecheng District, was built in 2011 and is one of the earlier rural museums. Last week, the reporter came to Hehu Village, the open cultural square is backed by a hill, the winding promenade is winding and quiet, and the lotus pond on the side is full of new leaves and green, and these scenes are connected with the Hehu Folk Culture Museum. This museum is an antique factory building that has been renovated. It’s a place to show. After the renovation of the museum in 2017, the exhibition is more abundant, with more than 1,600 exhibits of different types, which is enough to feast the eyes of visitors.
Wang Xianghua, a native of Hehu Village, is also the museum’s caretaker. She said that in order to retain nostalgia, Hehu Village consciously collected old objects from villagers’ homes in the process of rural construction. These old objects range from ordinary agricultural tools to exquisite porcelain and pewterware. Following the development of the times, gramophones, tape recorders, televisions, DVDs and other objects are also displayed one by one, from which you can see the passage of time, the progress of science and technology, and the continuous improvement of the living standards of the villagers.
As soon as the Hehu Folk Culture Museum was completed, many neighboring villages came to investigate. In the follow-up operation process, a large number of teams will come to visit every year, mainly teachers and students of the school. They learn about farming culture and inherit the memory of local culture. The villagers also come here to find their roots in their spare time. According to an elderly man, her dowry was stored here, and looking at those old objects, the youth came to mind.
The village museum houses the nostalgia of Baiwei
On the basis of state-owned museums and non-state-owned museums, the existence of rural museums has realized the extension of the construction of cultural venues from cities to villages; On the basis of the rural library and the rural cultural auditorium, the rural museum has realized the diversified development of rural culture.
Shaoxing has more than 200 rural museums, which can be described as “rich in family background”, but in the actual operation process, there are also a series of problems, such as insufficient exhibits, lack of facility management, insufficient staffing and other shortcomings.
“Taking this opportunity, we require the completed rural museum to carry out ‘micro-transformation’ and ‘fine upgrading’ on the original basis, so as to meet the needs of villagers and foreign tourists for daily visits, give full play to the value of the rural museum, and become a window to show the appearance of the village, history and culture.” Liang Zhiyuan, director of the Museum Division of the Municipal Bureau of Culture, Broadcasting and Tourism, said.
This year’s evaluation of rural museums is divided into five projects: infrastructure, comprehensive management, exhibition, social service, and micro renovation and improvement, which also covers the area of the building, the environment of the building, the management personnel, the display content and other inspection items, using a scoring system, with a full score of 100 points.
“According to this scoring criterion, it is easy to find problems and improve them in time, such as the requirement that the number of exhibits should be at least 50 to 100 pieces (sets), and that there should be special management personnel, etc., which are relatively easy to achieve. As a cultural public facility in the countryside, the entry threshold is relatively low, and we start from the perspective of encouragement, guidance and promotion, so that the rural museum can be popularized in the countryside and meet the spiritual and cultural needs of villagers and tourists. Liang Zhiyuan said.
In the actual construction process, Liang Zhiyuan also mentioned that the countryside is Bo.The construction of the museum must be adapted to local conditions, pay attention to characteristics, and do not simply copy and be the same.
Among the many rural museums, many venues are eye-catching, such as the Fuquan Farming Cultural Center located in Xushan Village, Fuquan Street, Keqiao District. It is rebuilt from an old granary, and the architectural structure of the room-type warehouse and the earthen round warehouse presents a historical style, which adds a sense of history to the exhibition hall. According to the villagers, the Xushan granary has been idle since 2017. In order to better manage and use these distinctive granaries and promote the dissemination of farming history and culture, Fuquan Street actively communicated with the relevant departments at the higher levels and opened the granary renovation plan to transform this granary into Fuquan Farming Cultural Center.
In addition to the use of idle farmhouses and abandoned buildings to adapt measures to local conditions, the characteristic display of its content is more important.
“Each village has a unique history and a unique cultural imprint. For example, like some villages, there are many celebrities; Some characteristic villages were once representative villages of agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry and fishery; There are also villages that inherit a certain industry; Then there are those with splendid intangible culture, and so on. For different types of villages, the construction of rural museums should also be different, and in the process of construction, attention should be paid to excavating history, reflecting the characteristics of the village, and refining the spiritual connotation of the village. Liang Zhiyuan emphasized.
From the existing village museums in Shaoxing, you can see many excellent cases. For example, the Master Memorial Exhibition Hall of Shangxiang Village, Mashan Street, Yuecheng District, the Exhibition Hall of Lu Xun’s grandmother’s house in Anqiaotou Village, Sunduan Street, Yuecheng District, the exhibition hall of Wang Yangming’s ancestral residence in Hongxi Village, Chenxi Township, Shangyu District, the exhibition hall of the Random Bomb Exhibition Hall on the West Road of Shiliping Village, Donghe Township, Zhuji City, and the exhibition hall of the birthplace of Yue Opera in Dongwang Village, Ganlin Town, Shengzhou City, etc.
These venues have distinct local characteristics, and they are an indispensable part of the Shaoxing museum system, from which you can learn about the local customs.
Add a “village expo” engine to the integration of rural culture and tourism
The village museum has reborn some old objects here, giving people a new habitat for their spiritual life.
In addition to visible nostalgia, what other function should a village museum have? Liang Zhiyuan introduced that Zhejiang vigorously promotes the construction of common prosperity demonstration zones and the construction of rural museums, in addition to serving as a window for rural cultural display, its main purpose is to serve common prosperity.
Some experts also mentioned that opening up the “last mile” of public cultural services in rural museums through cultural empowerment should not only meet the needs of villagers for spiritual prosperity, but also become an important carrier for the development of rural cultural tourism to achieve a rich people and strong villages.
In the actual operation process, many villages have enjoyed the traffic dividend brought by the village museum. Xiaoshunjiang Village, Pingshui Town, Keqiao District, is surrounded by mountains and rivers, with beautiful scenery, and the Lingxia Party History Museum of Xiaoshunjiang Village is located here. At present, the venue is operated by Zhejiang Red Fanghua Cultural Tourism Development Co., Ltd., and the results are remarkable and it has become a township. The village museum is one of the classic cases of realizing the common prosperity of the villagers and generating income.
“If the village museum wants to drive the local economy, it can start from its own functionality and extension.” Zhang Wenbo, head of Zhejiang Red Fanghua Cultural Tourism Development Co., Ltd., shared. In order to revitalize this red scenic spot, he added a lot of services to the operation, such as changing military uniforms, marching on ancient roads, watching red movies, experiencing revolutionary farm food, and so on. In the process of marching on the ancient road, learning agriculture, history, army, literature, and art, the five village scenic spots under the jurisdiction of Wanghua Film in Pingshui Town were connected in series, realizing the common prosperity of the villagers.
The Memorial Hall of the Shaoxing Independent Branch of the Communist Party of China, located in Qixian Village, Qixian Street, Keqiao District, was completed and opened in May 2018, which is a red education base. On a spring day when the grass grows and the warbler flies, the memorial hall is surrounded by a patch of verdant greenery, surrounded by neat roads, open lawns, winding walking trails and quaint memorial halls.
In March 1926, the Shaoxing Independent Branch of the Communist Party of China was established here, which was one of the earliest party organizations established in Zhejiang Province, which also injected red genes into the beautiful landscape of Qixian. According to the administrator, after the opening of the Memorial Hall of the Shaoxing Independent Branch of the Communist Party of China in Qixian Village, there is an endless stream of tourists visiting every year. In 2021, the centenary of the founding of the Communist Party of China was celebrated, and the venue ushered in a peak of passenger flow, with the number of visitors exceeding 20,000 throughout the year.
How to make good use of this venue and make it the golden key to the common prosperity of the countryside? Fang Guoquan, a member of the Party Working Committee of Qixian Street, has his own ideas.
“Local villagers, especially local young people, can understand the history of the Communist Party of China and the revolutionary history of Shaoxing, which is conducive to their establishment of correct beliefs in life and the spirit of hard work, which is first of all spiritual common prosperity; Secondly, red education can be made into a red economy and give birth to some business formats. From an obscure village to today, more and more people come to visit and “check in”, Fang Guoquan has seen the experience of getting rich.
“Qixian Village has a good geographical advantage, the village has a new high-speed crossing, the traffic is developed, and there are Yangshan Park, Yangshan Stone City and other scenic spots around. Now, with the east wind of the Hangzhou Asian Games, the Qixian Asian Games rock climbing venue has completed the acceptance, and there are many people visiting now. In addition to these advantages, Qixian Village will also build an Asian Games theme park, an aerospace base, and a sailing base near the memorial hall, thus forming a tourist route that allows tourists to visit for a longer time, and then combines farmhouses, agricultural products, and homestay operations to generate income. Fang Guoquan told reporters that there are also third-party companies willing to participate in the operation of the project, which can achieve standardized and scientific management.
Zhuji is rich in red resources, similar to Qixian Village, Xidai Village, Ciwu Town, Zhuji City, and Xiafu Village, Diankou Town, because of the existence of Yu Xiusong Memorial Hall and Xuanxiafu Exhibition Hall, in recent years, tourists who come to visit are also endless, and the village style has also been significantly improved.
.”While further enriching the exhibition and telling good stories, the rural museum should focus on the follow-up operation work, realize standardized management, and become a model for the integration of rural culture and tourism, so that the museum can be lively, moving, and popular.” Liang Zhiyuan said. These rural museums will complete the unified licensing in the future, contributing to the construction of Shaoxing as a city of museums.
