I often tell people that working at the Zhijiang Laboratory is a very happy thing.
At the beginning of 2020, I ended my postdoctoral studies at the California Institute of Technology and decided to return to China. Zhejiang, where I was born and raised, was naturally my first choice. This is the reason why I became acquainted with Zhijiang Laboratory. The various events that followed made me more determined in my choices.
I remember on my first day at Zhijiang Laboratory, there was a thick stack of resumes on my desk. At that time, I exclaimed ‘Amazing’ in my heart, because years of experience in foreign laboratories have taught me that when I first enter a laboratory, it usually takes at least half a year to form a team, apply for project funds, and purchase equipment. I am already mentally prepared for this.
Kezhijiang Laboratory not only equipped each research center with HRBP (Human Resources Business Partner), but also found many excellent candidates based on my research direction in the field of photoacoustic imaging before I officially joined the company. It has to be said that they are very professional, very clear about my employment needs, and can accurately find matching talents through talent maps and other channels. Now, two of these candidates have become the core backbone of my team.
Meanwhile, the research funding provided here allows researchers to avoid spending a lot of time applying for projects everywhere. Especially here, we are equipped with world-class acoustic laboratories, providing an excellent research environment for us to expand our acoustic research and application direction. For me, firstly, I can do research that I enjoy, secondly, I can provide sufficient funding, strong team support, and excellent research conditions. What could be happier than this?
It is precisely because of such a series of guarantees that my team and I have continuously made new breakthroughs in less than two years. We have developed a variety of high-performance ultrasound sensors, breaking through new photoacoustic imaging technologies, applying for nearly 40 patents, and participating in two papers published in sub journals such as Nature Communications. The speed and efficiency of this scientific research make me feel that the decision to return to my hometown is “correct and worthwhile”.
I was born and raised in Zhejiang, and I deeply understand that this is a hot land for innovation. Nowadays, I am able to become one of the innovators and deeply feel that this is both an honor and a responsibility. Every time I return to my hometown of Shangyu, someone always comes to me to help solve various technical problems. I can feel the strong desire of these entrepreneurs to innovate and change, and I really hope to help them.
Therefore, centering on the three scientific innovation highlands of “Internet plus”, new materials and life health being built in Zhejiang, I made full use of what I had learned to meet the needs of Zhejiang’s industrial transformation and upgrading.
For example, the ultrasound scanning microscope we used for chip packaging testing just made its second generation prototype at the end of last month. Currently, domestic integration. The testing equipment used by circuit companies is almost all expensive imported equipment, and this equipment can be said to fill the domestic technological gap.
For example, the high-resolution photoacoustic tomography imaging device is one of my key projects at the Zhijiang laboratory. This device is unusual, as a photoacoustic camera can capture the body of a small mouse, with 1000 frames per second of images sufficient to see the transmission of neural signals in the brain. The spread of cancer cells, and even the “tracking” of individual cells, can be clearly seen through photoacoustic imaging. In terms of medical testing, it is enough to overturn the existing human scanning detection methods.
Only with more and more talents can we become a highland for innovation. I am also willing to convey this sense of happiness, so I have introduced scientific research talents to Zhijiang Laboratory through various opportunities, and have helped introduce multiple outstanding talents to Zhijiang Laboratory.
Another point is that Hangzhou provides great support for talents, such as settling down, children going to school, and housing, all with proper arrangements, allowing me to devote myself to work without any worries. That’s why I can be the last person to leave the laboratory every day with peace of mind.
