The Minnan Culture Salon, sponsored by the Minnan Culture Research Association of Fujian Province, was held in Quanzhou, Fujian Province on the 16th. Cultural lovers, scholars and private entrepreneurs from both sides of the strait gathered together to discuss the internal relationship between Minnan culture and private economy and even economic and social development, and broaden the new horizons of Minnan culture research.
Socio-economy thrives because of geographical location, thrives because of economy and lasts for a long time because of culture. Professor Lin Huadong, vice president of Quanzhou Normal University, pointed out that the theme of this Minnan Culture Salon is “Promoting Minnan Culture and Boosting Private Economy”, which is of practical positive significance for understanding the international characteristics of Minnan culture, excavating its contemporary value, promoting cultural exchanges between Fujian and Taiwan, and strengthening the construction of Minnan cultural economic circle.
At the salon, keynote speeches by experts and scholars, exchanges and interactions during the dinner, performances such as Minnan Kung Fu Tea Ceremony, Minnan traditional folk art and recitation alternated. Professor Chen Yiyuan, Dean of the School of Humanities of Kinmen University, through his field investigation in various parts of Vietnam, combined with specific historical documents, discussed the activities of Minnan businessmen in Vietnam over the years, as well as the spread and growth of Minnan culture in various parts of Vietnam.
“Minnan people who love to fight and dare to win are not afraid of difficulties, and they are willing to take risks and go to unpredictable places. While striving to realize their own life value, they will not forget their hometown.” Professor Chen Yiyuan told reporters that Minnan people have well inherited the spirit of honesty and unity in Chinese culture, and have deep feelings for their hometown, which has well promoted mutual help and development among Minnan businessmen.
“Family-run private enterprises play an extremely important role in economic construction.” Su Liming, deputy director of Minnan Cultural Research Base of Cultural Research Center of China Academy of Social Sciences, pointed out that private enterprises must push their enterprises to a new stage of development through reform and innovation if they want to give full play to their main role.
“The most fundamental thing in enterprise reform and innovation is cultural innovation.” Su Liming believes that the biggest obstacle and difficulty affecting the innovation and development of private enterprises in Fujian at present lies in many restrictive factors in “harmony with people”, which is closely related to the “familism” in the culture of family-run private enterprises. Therefore, we must transcend familism, realize corporate culture innovation, build a cultural environment that can attract and retain talents, and form a “harmony between people” situation.
Liu Ying, vice president and senior economist of the sharing center of Heng ‘an Group, took the topic of “Development of Private Economy in Southern Fujian” as a starting point, and shared the distinctive local characteristics and rich connotations of southern Fujian culture from his years of experience in enterprise change management and organization management, which promoted the economic development of southern Fujian.
