“Now strawberry seedlings are growing well, and it is expected that they can be planted by strawberry farmers in September.” Recently, in the modern nursery shed of Zhenhai Jiulong Lake Nursery Center, staff are planting strawberry seedlings.
“This strawberry cave cultivation seedling law system is the first innovative implementation in the whole city.” Xu Xuejun, deputy stationmaster of Agricultural Mechanization Management Station of zhenhai district Agriculture and Rural Bureau, said.
“Cave-cultured strawberry seedlings are not affected by the climate, and with the assistance of agricultural facilities, the survival rate is higher and the quality is better, which can guarantee the planting of strawberries in the second half of the year.” Chen Xiaohu, the person in charge of Jiulong Lake Nursery Center, said that compared with field planting, the cost of planting strawberry seedlings in holes is twice as high, and the selling price is relatively high. Strawberry growers are more willing to buy strawberry seedlings with better quality, which can reduce the replanting rate and increase the later yield.
It is reported that strawberry seedling raising is different from common crops, and it adopts stolon-rooted cultivation techniques. In the past cultivation, field planting is more suitable for strawberry seedling.
However, strawberry has a long seedling-raising period. The female parent is planted in March, and the seedling can only be grown in August. In the meantime, it needs to go through spring and summer, especially in hot and rainy summer. Strawberry seedlings are prone to gray mold, and the yield and quality of strawberry seedlings cannot be guaranteed.
“Last summer, affected by the typhoon, strawberry seedlings in Datian were flooded. When strawberries were planted in September, it was hard to find a strawberry seedling. This year, it was in hot weather, and strawberry seedlings in Datian didn’t grow well.” Xu Xuejun said that, in view of last year’s experience, this year, this district adopted hole culture technology to cultivate strawberry seedlings, and provided 250,000 yuan subsidy funds for agricultural and rural science and technology projects to agricultural business units that tried planting, so as to reduce the risk of farmers’ trial planting.
“A total of 3 acres were planted this year, with a survival rate of 98%. There are about 180,000 strawberry seedlings, which can plant 36 acres of strawberries.” Chen Xiaohu said that with the successful experience of planting this year, the planting scale will be expanded next year to benefit more farmers.
