After two days of site and cloud PK, at 11:20 am on December 26, Zhejiang Archaeological Oscar —— 2021 Zhejiang archaeological important discoveries selection results were released.
Zheng Jianhua, deputy director of Zhejiang Provincial Bureau of Cultural Heritage, read out the results of ——
Liu Bin, President of the Zhejiang Provincial Archaeological Society, said that some major discoveries, such as the Mengjiang Village Tomb, the Shi’ao Rice Field Site, and some cemeteries in Shaoxing, have been selected as major discoveries in our province last year. There are still some that need to be further worked on. After comprehensive consideration, we have selected the top ten of this year, which basically demonstrates the importance of archaeology, work, and protection in Zhejiang Province in 2021.
This year marks the centenary of Chinese archaeology, and it is also a year of great development in Chinese archaeology, with the establishment constantly expanding. Nowadays, comprehensive construction is included in the legal process of land pre approval, and archaeological work is particularly busy. If we want to summarize it in one sentence, let the cultural heritage displayed on the vast land come to life. Our work has brought the cultural heritage of Zhejiang back to light. Archaeologists are people who write history, and we are also people who write papers on the land. As a veteran in archaeological exhibitions, I have some personal feelings. Our work continues to expand in breadth and depth, covering every corner of the province, from islands to mountainous areas, from prehistoric times to Tang, Song, Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasties, from cemeteries, temple sites, seawalls, kiln sites, kiln sites, cemeteries, and so on. In terms of depth, we not only attach importance to the nature of cultural heritage sites, but also strengthen the importance of scientific and technological archaeology, including in terms of protection. The large tomb of Shaoxing Wildlife Park has undergone overall relocation and protection. This is only a part of the archaeological work in Zhejiang Province, and only some key points can be seen.
There is another point of academic growth. For example, in Shengsi, Zhoushan, we discovered for the first time the ruins of marine life accumulated on sand dunes. We have also seen the changes and lag between islands and land, which is important for us to study prehistoric archaeology in Zhejiang.
The second point is the abundance of cultural lineage data. In the area south of the Qiantang River, there are many new materials for studying the Hemudu culture, including the new discovery of the Qianshanyang site, which is important for us to further improve the prehistoric cultural lineage. We have followed the concept of the fourth phase of Hemudu, which is equivalent to the Songze culture in terms of age and is consistent with the Songze culture in the lower reaches of the Yangtze River. Academically, it is also related to the staging of Hemudu culture and has added many rich materials.
The discovery of Shang and Zhou archaeology, the discovery of the small ancient city of Yuhang, and the discovery of the Tiaotou site in Yuhang have added new content to Shang and Zhou archaeology. The Shang and Zhou archaeology in Zhejiang also includes the Mengjiang Village site in Quzhou – possibly the discovery of the Gumi Kingdom.
The site of Tiaomao Mountain during the Han and Six Dynasties periods was also selected. The Han and Six Dynasties were significant periods of development in Zhejiang after the Spring and Autumn period and the Warring States period, and need to be followed up at a major historical level. Including the excavation of the Tianmu kiln, it is important to discover at the porcelain kiln site, as we still need to continue working, so we did not enter the top ten, but our new academic growth point.
I also saw an increase in new archaeological forces, and we have a large number of young archaeologists in our report. I am pleased to see the expansion of the staffing of the Zhejiang Archaeological Institute and the Hangzhou Archaeological Institute. The archaeological community has ushered in a major period of development. From the perspective of archaeology in Zhejiang Province,.The City College of Zhejiang University has also established a Department of Archaeology, and Zhejiang University has also passed the plan for the development of archaeology.
In the new year, we will continue to pay attention to the construction of Zhejiang’s great history and delve into the next step of archaeological work. Strengthen the concept of protecting large sites and cultural heritage.
