On July 5th, the book launch of “Something to Say from the Collection” was held at the Palace Museum. Wang Xudong, Director of the Palace Museum, Du Haijiang, Secretary of the Party Committee, Li Kaisheng, President of China Women’s Publishing House, Wang Cuijie, Deputy Director of Beijing Municipal Bureau of Cultural Heritage, Liu Chaoying, Chairman of Beijing Museum Society, Chang Ye, Executive Editor-in-Chief of Xinhuanet, Geng Ying, President of China Cultural Heritage Foundation, and representatives of museums in Beijing attended the event.
The new book “Something to Say from the Collection” released this time is derived from the 100-episode audio program of the same name. In 2021, on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China, the Palace Museum, together with the Beijing Municipal Administration of Cultural Heritage, the Beijing Museum Society, and Xinhuanet, jointly launched a 100-episode audio program “Collections Have Something to Say”, which gathered 62 museums, memorial halls, art galleries, and science and technology museums, and told the public about the glorious course of the Chinese sons and daughters in saving the country, bravely resisting the enemy, forging ahead, and making unremitting efforts since modern China, and deeply excavated the connection between the founding and development of the Party and China’s cultural and museum undertakings. “Something to Say from the Collection” is the same series of books as the program, published by China Women’s Publishing House, which includes all 100 episodes of the program (in order of audio broadcast), with relevant museum introductions.
Wang Xudong said in his speech that the “Collection Has Something to Say” project from audio programs to physical books is a successful and innovative attempt, an important achievement of the museum through in-depth excavation of collection resources, inheritance and development of excellent traditional Chinese culture, and also the joint result of the overall coordination of the Beijing Municipal Administration of Cultural Relics and the Beijing Museum Society, the collective efforts of many colleagues, and the professional support of Xinhuanet and China Women’s Publishing House.
According to reports, the planning and publication of the book “The Collection Has Something to Say” is an innovative attempt to interpret the cultural relics of the party’s history, allowing readers to walk into the place where the red story of the collection takes place in the book, and more deeply feel the struggle and national spirit of the Communist Party of China over the past century.
