On the morning of December 18, the results of the 2022 annual Zhejiang important archaeological discoveries were announced in Hangzhou, and the Wenzhou Shuomen Ancient Port site was selected in Hangzhou.
The selection is guided by Zhejiang Provincial Bureau of Cultural Heritage, sponsored by Zhejiang Archaeological Society, undertaken by Zhejiang Provincial Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology, and 21 archaeological discoveries in the evaluation.
Ten archaeological discoveries, including Shuomen Ancient Port Site in Wenzhou and Taifu Temple Site in Changxing, were selected as important archaeological discoveries in Zhejiang province in 2022.
Wenzhou Shuomen Ancient Port Site is located in the east of Wangjiang East Road, Lucheng District, Wenzhou City, Zhejiang Province, outside the north gate of Wenzhou ancient City, near the ancient city in the south, Oujiang River in the north, Haitan Mountain in the east, echoing the twin towers of Jiangxin Island across the river.
In October 2021, the site in the wangjiang road under the basic construction of archaeological work, the Zhejiang institute of cultural relics and Wenzhou institute of archaeological team, found the ancient city of water, lu gate related architectural relics, song river, eight wharf, 2 ships, 1 wooden plank, many groups of dry column buildings and masonry buildings, as well as the number of 10 tons of all kinds of porcelain specimens, lacquer wood and rich relics.
The main remains are concentrated in the Song and Yuan dynasties, and the site excavation area is mainly composed of the east end of Shuimen antou area, the adjacent Port area and the south side of the west end.
The east and west ends of the excavation area are related relics of water and land gate, the main body of which is east-west strip, and the relics such as sunken ships and docks are mostly distributed in the strip area.
In the site, there is a rammed earth embankment which was built earlier in the Northern Song Dynasty, and is an important channel connecting the northern port area of Haitan Mountain.
The front end of the embankment extends out of the slope wharf and is built based on the bedrock at the foot of Haitan Mountain. It is made of stone masonry in a gentle slope.
In addition, most of the wharf sites are long-square or long-shaped dike wharves in the Song Dynasty, in the shape of multi-stage platforms.
