On August 18th, the 2022-2023 annual award ceremony of the National Youth Cultural Heritage Knowledge Competition was held in the Palace Museum. More than 100 primary and middle school students from all over the country won the top three in each sub-track. Wang Xudong, member of the party group of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, president of the Palace Museum, consultant of the organizing committee of the competition, and Li Xiaojie, former vice minister of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, attended and presented awards to the winners.
Wang Xudong said in his speech that young people are “little guardians” of cultural heritage, shouldering the glorious and arduous task of inheriting Chinese civilization and pioneering and innovating. The contestants’ love for cultural heritage will inspire cultural workers to work harder to protect and interpret cultural heritage.
Registration for the first National Youth Cultural Heritage Knowledge Competition started in March 2023, with a total of 690,000 primary and secondary school students from 23 provinces, 5 autonomous regions, 4 municipalities directly under the Central Government and 2 special administrative regions, and more than 3,700 participating schools and institutions were officially registered. After the municipal preliminaries and provincial rematches, winners from primary and secondary schools from all over the country gathered in Beijing. In the past few days, through written tests, interviews, special exhibitions, sitcom performances and interactive answers at the museum, the top three in different events in China were finally decided, such as individual competition, team competition, Guqin special competition, cultural maker special competition, digital special competition, nine-chapter arithmetic special competition and family letter special competition. At present, several tracks, such as calligraphy and painting knowledge and practice competition, museum commentator competition and cultural relics science and technology knowledge and application competition, are still under review, and the final results will be announced in the near future.
It is understood that the National Youth Cultural Heritage Knowledge Competition is one of the national competitions for primary and secondary school students in the 2022-2025 school year approved by the Ministry of Education. It is sponsored by China Cultural Relics Protection Technology Association, and this year is the first competition. Through close cooperation with many well-known universities and museums in China, the organizing committee of the competition actively promoted cultural heritage into campus, popular science knowledge propaganda, museum interactive education and other activities during the competition, and actively explored new ways to systematically and scientifically apply interdisciplinary knowledge such as cultural heritage inheritance and protection and scientific and technological application to basic education, which won wide social recognition. According to the relevant regulations of the Ministry of Education, the National Youth Cultural Heritage Knowledge Competition will announce the winners of all competitions in the first school year and the schedule plan for the next school year in the near future.
