Metrology, as the quality guardian of high-end precision manufacturing industry, keeps pace with the times, improves the level of science and technology and service ability, which is the development background of metrology people in the new era. Aiming at the frontier of cutting-edge science and technology, the Provincial Institute of Metrology is striding forward on the pioneering road of metrology modernization, which is the breakthrough and improvement of its ability and the development of scientific and technological innovation, and implementing the spirit of the 20th Party Congress in the field of metrology with practical actions.
Overcome the measurement problems in emerging fields and strongly support the vigorous development of high-tech industries.
The force measurement specialty of Provincial Metrology Institute currently has national/provincial measurement standards such as 0.01-level dead weight dynamometer standard device, 0.1-level superimposed dynamometer standard device and 0.05-level dead weight torque standard device, ranking among the best in China in terms of measurement accuracy and measuring range. The newly-built 30MN superimposed force standard machine is the only measurement standard device with the capability of both tension and compression in the world, and its design parameters reach 0.1-level measurement accuracy in the range of (0.3-30)MN, ranking first in the world.
With the continuous development of science and technology, sensor technology involving materials science, mechanics, electricity and many other fields has become an important indicator to measure the country’s comprehensive national strength and scientific and technological level. With the improvement of productivity, multi-component force sensors are widely used in artificial intelligence, robotics, aerospace, automobile industry, heavy machinery, intelligent manufacturing, advanced medical care and other fields. At present, only 304 institutes in China and Beijing Institute of Aerospace Metrology and Testing Technology have the ability to calibrate Z-force measurement above 300kN, and there are still some technical problems that have not been completely solved. In order to fill the gap in this field in our province, and at the same time further tackle the technical problems of multi-directional force measurement, and provide technical services for universities engaged in basic research and enterprises engaged in production activities. The Provincial Institute of Metrology continued to promote the construction of calibration devices for multi-component force sensors and tackle key technical problems in scientific research. On the basis of full investigation and research, it actively prepared a multi-component force standard device to meet the measurement needs of high-tech industries for multi-component force values.
Quantum absolute gravimeter is a new type of absolute gravimeter developed in recent 30 years. It uses Raman stimulated transition to manipulate cold atomic clusters, realizes the interference of matter waves under the action of gravity field, and extracts the corresponding phase information to obtain the absolute gravity value. It is often used in basic physics research, metrology and other application fields with absolute gravity acceleration as observation or reference. Aiming at the emerging blank field of quantum metrology, the Provincial Institute of Metrology, in conjunction with Zhejiang University of Technology, carried out the research on the topic of “Application of Quantum Absolute Gravimeter in Metrology”, continuously promoted the capacity building of quantum gravity acceleration testing, and provided micro-giga-level local gravity acceleration testing for many domestic leading enterprises in force sensor and force standard machine production.

Deepen the “Industry-University-Research” scientific and technological cooperation, and continue to exert major scientific research projects.
Relying on its own leading edge in the field of metrology, the force measurement specialty of Provincial Metrology Institute gives full play to the team’s scientific research strength. While actively carrying out horizontal projects to serve various measurement needs of schools and enterprises, it fully communicates with scientific research institutions such as Zhejiang University and Zhijiang Laboratory, complementing each other’s advantages and jointly applying for major scientific research projects and obtaining project approval. The multi-parameter motion performance, adaptability to unstructured environment, positioning accuracy and hand-foot-eye coordination ability of key components of quadruped special robot are studied. The research on the key technologies of intelligent and accurate mapping of submarine pipelines aims to form a set of working tools for high-precision pipeline mapping on the seabed, so as to greatly improve the external detection level of offshore submarine pipelines in China, effectively identify and detect submarine pipeline defects, find pipeline leakage in time, and ensure the transportation safety of offshore oil and gas resources in China.

Inheriting the research spirit of the older generation of mechanical metrology, the rookie of mechanical metrology is determined to move forward
Pioneering and enterprising all the way, all the way through difficulties, from scratch, from existence to Excellence. A number of domestic advanced testing equipment, such as the 1MN static weight force standard machine, which ranks in the forefront of the country and has the same accuracy as the national measurement standard, have witnessed the continuous study of the metrological personnel of the older generation of Provincial Metrology Institute. With the help of the inheritance of the older generation of metrology people, the mechanics rookie has been able to think independently and explore continuously from the beginning of metrology to being independent.
In 2022, the young scientific and technical personnel of the force measurement team of the Provincial Institute of Metrology successfully applied for the youth science and technology project of the Provincial Bureau, respectively, exploring and breaking through the long-term unresolved problems such as multi-component force sensor multi-factor introduction error and complicated torque detection connection affecting detection efficiency. The younger generation realizes the effective link between theory and practice in positive thinking and practice, and further enhances the unique scientific and technological force.
In the new journey full of mission and glory, the Provincial Institute of Metrology will protect the metrological fire initiated by the older generation of metrological workers, aim at the frontier of cutting-edge science and technology, continuously cultivate, promote metrological modernization with high-quality service, escort the high-quality development of Zhejiang economy, draw a blueprint to the end, and write magnificent poems of the new era of industrial development in Zhejiang.
