On the morning of February 5th, Lanxi Museum was opened to commemorate the 90th anniversary of Mr. Wu Xiang’s birth and the launching ceremony of Wu Xiangguo’s Painting Collection.
Wu Xiang (May, 1927—February, 2011), born in Shefeng, Yongchang, was the honorary president of Jinhua Painting and Calligraphy Institute, chairman of Lanxi Artists Association and honorary chairman. Influenced by the culture of his hometown and the spirituality of Jiashan Xiushui, Mr. Wu Xiang showed his artistic talent in calligraphy and painting when he was young. He started with the techniques of modern famous artists such as Ren Bonian, Wu Changshuo and Shi Tao, and then went to Hangzhou Art College (now China Academy of Fine Arts) for further study. He benefited from many teachers and learned from the perspective of western painting and the principle of using colors to enter Chinese painting, learning from tradition but not being rigid, and expressing the colorful world by splashing ink. Flowers, birds, landscapes and figures in his works are all perfect: every grass and tree has the essence of life; Smoke waves and hills and valleys, the years are quiet and good.
This time, in order to commemorate the ninetieth anniversary of Mr. Wu Xiang’s birth, and on the occasion of the Spring Festival of 1898, Qi Xin from all walks of life in Lanxi jointly held the launching ceremony of the “90th Anniversary of Wu Xiang’s Birth” and “Wu Xiang’s National Painting Collection”, commemorating this Lanxi-based painting and calligraphy artist with both virtue and artistry, and also aiming at promoting the prosperity and development of Lanxi culture and art. On the morning of the same day, a symposium on Wu Xiang’s traditional Chinese painting art was held.
The exhibition lasted for one month, and more than 90 fine paintings and calligraphy works from Mr. Wang’s descendants and folk collectors were exhibited. (Lanxi Museum)
