July 12th is this year’s National Low Carbon Day. On July 11th, 2023 “National Low Carbon Day” in Zhejiang Province was held in Hangzhou Low Carbon Science and Technology Museum, and the digital management platform of “Asian Games Carbon Neutralization-Pollution Reduction and Carbon Reduction Synergy” was officially released on the spot, which helped to build the first carbon-neutral Asian Games and Asian Paralympic Games.
“The carbon emissions of large-scale events involve a wide range of fields and strong policies, including venue construction, transportation, accommodation, event organization, spectators and other fields. The workload of manual calculation is large and it is difficult to track and verify.” The relevant person in charge of the Environmental Protection Department of the Hangzhou Asian Games Organizing Committee said, “Now, the staff can automatically calculate the emissions after inputting the original data into the system and auditing by the accounting personnel, and the evaluation unit can also trace and audit the data through the system, which not only improves the work efficiency, but also enhances the credibility.”
It is reported that the platform applies digital technology to the whole process of carbon emission collection, accounting, emission reduction, cancellation and evaluation management for the first time, involving 6 cities, 13 fields and 2 categories of carbon emission reduction, realizing the traceability, query and dynamic update of the whole process data of carbon emission, and establishing a carbon emission management system. The platform also showed the characteristic achievements such as digitalization of carbon-neutral management, synergy of pollution reduction and carbon reduction, diversification of carbon-neutral paths, and participation in carbon-neutral popularization.
