On July 1, on the occasion of the 99th anniversary of the founding of the CPC, the “Adventures in the Same Boat – Exhibition of Calligraphy and Painting Cultural Relics Donated by Jincheng Family Members in Memory of Jincheng Comrade” opened in the Wulin Museum Area of Zhejiang Provincial Museum. The exhibition showcases the life introduction of Comrade Jincheng, former Deputy Minister of the Central United Front Work Department, calligraphy and painting relics donated by Jincheng’s family, and the noble red family tradition of the Jincheng family through three units: “A Glorious Life”, “Witness of Friendship”, and “Inheritance of Red Family Style”.
Comrade Jincheng, a native of Zhuji, Zhejiang Province, joined the revolution in 1925. In 1927, after the Kuomintang Rightists launched the “April 12” counter revolutionary coup, he resolutely joined the CPC and served as the acting secretary of the CPC Zhuji County Committee, and the political commissar of the first group of the Eastern Zhejiang Peasant Revolutionary Army. In 1933, he was arrested and imprisoned while participating in the workers’ movement in Shanghai. After being rescued from prison, he began to participate in united front work for the local powerful factions of the Kuomintang, thus embarking on the path of united front work and dedicating his life to it. Comrade Jincheng’s wife Chen Fujun is a professor at the Central Conservatory of Music, dedicated to the research and translation of music theory. At the same time, she was also the Old Eighth Route during the Anti Japanese War, who went to Yan’an in her early years to pursue brightness.
In September 2019, Professor Chen Fujun and his family donated 12 calligraphy and painting works collected by Comrade Jincheng during his lifetime to the Zhejiang Provincial Museum for free, in order to express their nostalgia for Comrade Jincheng and support for the development of Zhejiang’s cultural industry. The 12 donated relics include Pan Tianshou’s “1961 Eagle Painting”, Xie Xiaosi and Liu Shuhua’s “Shuangqing Painting”, Xie Xiaosi’s “Spring Welcoming Painting”, Guo Moruo’s “Running Script Seven Character Poetry”, Huang Yanpei’s “1959 Running Script Seven Character Poetry”, Shen Junru’s “1959 Running Script Passing through Lanzhou Poetry”, Chen Shutong’s “Running Script Axis”, Zhao Puchu’s “1981 Running Script Seven Character Poetry”, Sha Menghai’s “Running Script Axis”, and Fei Xiaotong’s “1987 Running Script Horizontals”, Qigong’s “1984 Running Script Seven Character Poetry Axis” and Zhou Erfu’s “1980 Running Script Chen Yi Red Plum Poetry Axis”.
These calligraphy and paintings were presented by old friends of Comrade Jincheng who had made friends in the long-term united front work. They are the witness of friendship and reflect the historical fragments of the united front work of the CPC. They not only have high artistic value and research and display value, but also are valuable historical contributions. Professor Chen Fujun and his family donated these calligraphy and painting works to the country free of charge, so that they can be properly kept, studied, displayed and used, which reflects the inheritance of the red family style of the Jin family and is a model of inheritance of the fine style of the CPC.
To commemorate and thank the selfless dedication of the Jin family and promote their noble red family style, the Zhejiang Provincial Museum held this exhibition from July 1st to August 2nd in the temporary exhibition hall on the second floor of the Wulin Museum area, allowing more people to experience the history and spirit it carries through the exhibition.
