According to the latest data, in 2021, Chinese museums received 779 million visitors, and planned to launch more than 3,000 online exhibitions and 10,000 online education activities, with a total page view of more than 4.1 billion people online.
The opening ceremony of the 2022 May 18 International Museum Day was held at the Hubei Provincial Museum near the East Lake in Wuhan.
This year’s theme is “The Power of museums”, meaning that “museums have the ability to change the world around us”.
Li Qun, vice minister of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and director of the State Administration of Cultural Heritage, said in a video link speech that in 2021, China added 395 new museums, with a total of 6,183.
The 5,605 museums nationwide are free of charge, accounting for more than 90% of the total.
National museums have held 36,000 exhibitions and 323,000 educational activities.
At the opening ceremony, the 19th (2021) “National Museum Top Ten Exhibition Fine Works” was announced, Zhejiang Provincial Museum (Zhejiang Revolutionary History Memorial Hall), Anhui Museum, Panlong City Site Museum won the “Most Innovative Museum” in 2022.
On the same day, the theme exhibition “He: The Power of Music —— The Chinese Early Musical Instrument Culture” was officially opened. More than 100 pieces (sets) of musical cultural relics from 7 provinces (cities) and 15 cultural institutions were exhibited for 3 months.
