China US Science Popularization Connection Enters Yuyao Middle School Live Broadcast of Da Vinci Robot Surgery

Last night, the live broadcast of Sino US science popularization link Da Vinci robot surgery hosted by Zhejiang Association for Science and Technology, Ningbo Association for Science and Technology, the Free Science Center of New Jersey in the United States, and the Medical Center of Kazakhstan University in the United States, and undertaken by Yuyao Association for Science and Technology and Yuyao Middle School entered Yuyao Middle School, and more than 700 teachers and students participated in the live broadcast activity. Qi Honggang, director of Urology of Ningbo Yinzhou Second People’s Hospital, was invited to give a live explanation.
The Da Vinci robotic surgery system is an advanced robot platform designed to perform complex surgical procedures using minimally invasive methods. The surgical system includes an operating table with four interactive robotic arms, a doctor’s console, and a computer-assisted video system. Compared with conventional surgery, Da Vinci robotic surgery has advantages such as small wound size, fast recovery, less blood loss, and good prognosis. At present, Da Vinci robots are mainly used in General surgery, thoracic surgery, Urology, obstetrics and gynecology, head and neck surgery, heart surgery, etc.
The surgery was carried out at the Medical Center of the University of Kazakhstan in the United States, and was broadcasted to students from both China and the United States through video connections. The on-site audience can synchronously watch the surgery process through a large screen and ask questions of interest at any time. Similarly, doctors and nurses in the operating room can also see the on-site audience, hear their questions, and respond when conditions permit.
The most active participants at the event were the students from Yuyao Middle School. Many students expressed their “great interest” in the event, which opened their eyes and made them “more vivid than textbooks”. The relevant person in charge of Yuyao Association for Science and Technology said that this connection between China and the United States for science popularization not only strengthened international scientific and technological exchanges, but also used foreign science popularization resources to promote the innovative development of domestic science popularization activities, and expanded the science popularization vision of students, which greatly stimulated their curiosity about science.
The China US Science Popularization Connection Activity is a science popularization activity mainly aimed at teenagers through professional internet video technology, breaking the traditional mode of one-way communication and adopting an immersive and open course education model. This live broadcast of Leonardo da Vinci’s robotic surgery event allows the on-site audience to have a direct view of the high-end surgical scene in the United States, interact with on-site doctors in real-time, with a novel form and strong audio-visual impact, allowing the on-site audience to fully understand the world’s cutting-edge medicine and appreciate the world’s technological trends.
Over the past 8 years, a total of 16 science popularization activities have been held between China and the United States. Nearly 10000 people from 10 high schools and some citizens in Ningbo actively participated in the activities, and the 6 special topics launched online in Ningbo, China have attracted a total of 1 million views.
