Gansu painted pottery began in the early Neolithic Age and ended in the Bronze Age. After more than 5,000 years, it is the only uninterrupted painted pottery culture in China. Gansu painted pottery has a unique atmosphere and magnificent colors. Among them, the painted pottery of Majiayao culture is gorgeous and complicated, which has reached the “peak of painted pottery art”.
On July 31st, Huzhou Museum and Gansu Provincial Cultural Relics Store jointly launched the “Painted Pottery Exhibition in Gansu”, in which 80 pieces of painted pottery cultural relics of Majiayao culture (Majiayao type, Mid-level type and Machang type), Qijia culture, Xindian culture, Siwa culture and Shajing culture from the Neolithic age in Gansu Province were exhibited. These artifacts are simple or gorgeous, although they have gone through thousands of years. The rich exhibits combined with interpretive graphic layout fully show the development of Gansu painted pottery culture and the unique charm of prehistoric painted pottery.
On the morning of the exhibition, Hu Bo invited Professor Lang Shude, a member of Gansu Provincial Cultural Relics Appraisal Committee and a researcher of Gansu Provincial Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology, to give a special lecture on Appreciation of Painted Pottery in Gansu. About 80 people, including members of Huzhou Wenbo Society, the public and the news media, attended the lecture.
This exhibition will last until August 30th, and will be open from 9: 00 to 16: 30 every day (admission will be closed after 16: 00). During the exhibition, Hubo will also carry out supporting educational activities such as plain pottery painting.
