The main road traces its source, the tide rises in Qiantang, and on the high tide, the air engulfs the rivers and mountains. In order to celebrate and present the 100th anniversary of the founding of the CPC, Zhejiang Symphony Orchestra’s large-scale original symphony work Above the Spring Tide, which depicts the style of “three places and one window” in Zhejiang, made a grand debut in Zhejiang Concert Hall on the evening of March 26, and successfully performed on the stage of “Chinese Symphony Spring” in the National Grand Theater on April 13. Under the guidance of the Zhejiang Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism, this work took the orchestra two years to plan and create, and was co created by composers Xi Qiming, Yu Yang, and Wang Danhong. It was performed by the orchestra’s artistic director and conductor Zhang Yi. The orchestra uses the music praise with deep appeal and more communication power to integrate the artistic conception, the Zeitgeist and the realistic context, so that the story of the Party and the story of Zhejiang can enter the public life and gather the strength of striving.
“On the Spring Tide” depicts a vivid and magnificent musical epic, which is a sincere tribute to the centennial of the Party’s birthday. The orchestra is willing to use affectionate and atmospheric music praise, integrate artistic conception, Zeitgeist and realistic context, so that the story of the Party and the story of Zhejiang can enter the hearts of more people, and gather a warm and progressive momentum. The work begins with the sound of a clear harp, and the prelude (Tide Rising Zhejiang) begins, making people feel as if they have heard the echoes of history through the ripples and water waves. Entering the first movement (Sailing Tide: Revolutionary Story), the melodious horn, sonorous rhythm, and undulating melody evoke memories of the revolutionary tide that began in Nanhu, Zhejiang. Amidst the surging tide, the magnificent scroll and heroic map painted with blood for 28 years have been cast with glory and condensed into eternity in the 28 salutes of the founding ceremony of New China. In the second movement (Open Tide: Development Story) and the third movement (Thought Tide: New Era Story), the beautiful and uplifting melody vividly displays the essence and spirit nurtured by the soil and water in Zhejiang, showcasing the uplifting and spiritual coordinates of Zhejiang’s development: the confident and determined rhythm and melody, showcasing the Chinese rhythm and Zhejiang rhythm. In the final movement (Tide to the Sea: Future Story), the music is sometimes soothing and sometimes powerful and full of tension. Traditional music is intertwined with a grand symphony, as if the tide of the times is rolling forward, constantly urging people to make progress: Qiantang, a prosperous city with thousands of sails in history, has become more prosperous and developed in a broader world. Zhejiang resonates with the development rhythm of China in the new era, and Zhejiang, which is constantly racing, will continue to stir up a wave of reform, exploration, innovation and empowerment under the guidance of the Communist Party of China. Let go of the past, absorb new ideas, and rush forward!
