Yesterday morning, the contemporary part of the Second Natural Dyes Biennale, “Sky Dyeing: Reproducing the Colors of the Past”, opened in the Fashion Museum of China Silk Museum. The Biennale is hosted by Zhejiang Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism and Zhejiang Provincial Bureau of Cultural Relics, hosted by China Silk Museum, and co-organized by Cultural Heritage Center of China Academy of Fine Arts and Wenzhou Caicheng Lanjiawei Museum.
The natural dyes and dyeing processes used in this exhibition come from folk research, ancient literature, scientific analysis, etc., with a view to creating high-quality special exhibitions at the historical, artistic and scientific levels. While recreating the colors of the past, it also makes the application of natural dyes more extensive and subtle. Different from the first Natural Dyes Biennale in 2019, this exhibition takes natural dyes as an important theme of contemporary art, and emphasizes that the natural dyes and dyeing processes of participating artists must have folk sources and ancient literature sources.
“I hope that this exhibition can rebuild the public academic system of traditional natural dyeing and reproduce the series of colors of traditional dyeing. I also hope that the past and natural colors and crafts can empower today’s beautiful life and add more gorgeous, environmentally friendly and sustainable colors. ” At the opening ceremony, Zhao Feng, director of China Silk Museum, said.
During the exhibition, Zheng Juxin, the curator and professor of China Academy of Fine Arts, showed the audience around.
