Zhejiang holds Sino-US technical exchange meeting on sword artificial intelligence and automatic driving
Release date: June 27, 2019
How to conform to the development trend of electrification, intelligence, networking and sharing of the global automobile industry, accelerate the integration of Zhejiang automobile industry into the global automobile industry innovation system, and promote the transformation and upgrading of our automobile industry?
This afternoon, the Provincial Science and Technology Department organized a “Zhejiang American Intelligent Driving and Advanced Materials Technology Exchange Conference” in Xiaoshan Robot Town, and invited many professors from Caitlin University, which is known as the “West Point Military Academy” of the automobile industry, to Hangzhou to have face-to-face exchanges with the R&D leaders of local automobile enterprises in Zhejiang.
Dr, Executive Vice President of Caitlin University.James introduced that the school, formerly known as General Motors College, is the originator and pioneer of automotive engineering technology, and is in a world-leading position in the research fields of autonomous driving and vehicle networking, battery research and development of electric vehicles, vehicle power and chassis design, and lightweight materials. Currently, there are more than 500 cooperative units around the world, which include federal government agencies, national laboratories, and Fortune 500 companies. He hopes that through this exchange opportunity, he can carry out more cooperation projects with scientific research institutions and car companies in Zhejiang.
“As early as 2015, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology signed the Framework Agreement on Demonstration and Cooperation of Smart Cars and Intelligent Transportation Applications Based on Broadband Mobile Internet with Zhejiang Province, and Zhejiang became the first province in China to carry out cooperation between ministries and provinces to promote the demonstration of 5G vehicle networking applications.” Dr. Zhang Xuequn of Zhejiang Robot Industry Development Association pointed out in his speech on the theme of “Current Situation and Thinking of Domestic Intelligent Driving Industry Technology” that at present, six enterprises including Ali and Huawei in Hangzhou have obtained the license of intelligent networked automobile road test. Looking at the whole country, 32 road test licenses of intelligent networked vehicles have been issued in 12 regions, and the development environment of intelligent networked vehicles in China is becoming more and more perfect.
Dr. Zhang Xuequn believes that the smart car in the future will be a mobile robot platform. The information terminals of automotive radar and camera are like people’s glasses and ears. The controller can make central decisions like people’s brains, while the electronic stability system and automatic transmission can execute instructions like people’s hands and feet.
Will artificial intelligence affect the development of cars in the future? In the exchange and discussion session of this activity, all the industry experts present here gave their own views.
Dr, Assistant Professor, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Caitlin University.Jungme Park said that artificial intelligence technology will play a pivotal role in autonomous driving. At present, artificial intelligence technology has been successfully used in autonomous driving, but there is still a long way to go before it is fully promoted and implemented. In the future, smart cars will reach a higher dimension in hardware, and higher-end computing power can promote the wide application of autonomous driving.
“Without artificial intelligence, there will be no automatic driving. We must achieve 100% accuracy, make continuous efforts to achieve full maturity of technology, and use artificial intelligence to realize comprehensive processing and application of data.” Jaerock Kwon, an associate professor of computer engineering at Caitlin University, said.
Chen Wenlin, the intelligent driving development center of Geely Automobile Research Institute, believes that artificial intelligence technology is indispensable in autonomous driving, but it cannot be over-relied, and it also needs the auxiliary support of other technologies. The commercialization of autonomous driving means a high degree of coordination between cars and roads. In the future, driverless technology may be more actively deployed in the coordination of cars and roads, so that cars can realize lighter automatic sensing and more technology research and development can be put on the roads, thus achieving higher use efficiency.
After the event, Zhejiang Robot Industry Development Association and Malaysian Robot Association signed a memorandum of understanding, and the two sides will jointly establish an international robot cluster alliance to further promote the development of Zhejiang and Malaysia in the robot industry through holding academic seminars, robot contest and joint research and development projects.
