Recently, the Office of the China Local Chronicles Guidance Group issued a document agreeing to designate the Shaoxing Local Chronicles Compilation Office and the Yuecheng District Historical Chronicles Research Office (urban co construction model) as pilot projects for the construction of national local chronicles cultural propaganda and education bases. This has laid a solid foundation for Shaoxing City to explore rich local chronicles and better inherit the cultural heritage of Vietnam.
Shaoxing is the hometown of local chronicles, with a long history of compiling chronicles. The “Yue Jue Shu” written by the Kuaiji people of the Eastern Han Dynasty is considered one of the earliest local chronicles in China. In history, there have been numerous excellent works of famous chronicles, and only the “Zhejiang Local Chronicles Examination” records that there are 9 types of historical chronicles related to Kuaiji County in Shaoxing, and 89 types of county chronicles of Shaoxing Prefecture (only the counties and cities under the jurisdiction of Shaoxing today). Among them, there are currently 7 prefecture (county, state) level chronicles; There are currently 37 local chronicles of various counties under the jurisdiction of the government (excluding Xiaoshan and Yuyao). In addition, there are a large number of mountain and water scenic spots and township chronicles. Among them, the “Shan Ju Fu” of the Six Dynasties, the “Shan Lu” and “Shan Lu” of the Southern Song Dynasty’s Kuaiji Annals, and the “Shaoxing Prefecture Annals” of the Ming Dynasty’s Wanli Annals are highly regarded as excellent and famous annals in the field of local chronicles, attracting the attention of the world. In history, there have been many famous local chroniclers in Shaoxing, especially Zhang Xuecheng from the Qing Dynasty. He is recognized as the founder of the theory of local chronicles and has made outstanding contributions to the formation of modern Chinese local chronicles.
In recent years, Shaoxing City has vigorously promoted the study of local chronicles, achieving fruitful results and a complete system. Since the 1980s, the first round of “Shaoxing City Annals” has won the first prize in the country, and several county annals have also been at the forefront of the country. The “Shaoxing Chronicles (1979-2010)” was published in 2018. By 2020, all districts and counties (cities) in Shaoxing have achieved comprehensive completion of the second round of chronicle revision, comprehensive coverage of the yearbook, and the “Two Complete Goals”. The Shaoxing local chronicles array, with over 200 ancient and modern chronicles as its core, is constantly expanding. At the same time, Shaoxing City has also collected 58 works on local chronicles and party history, with over 50 million words, to develop an application scenario of “Handheld Shaoxing Historical Records”, achieving one-stop retrieval and one screen access to the city’s collection of local chronicles.
Building a local chronicle cultural propaganda and education base is an important measure to innovate and improve the system, mechanism, and methods of local chronicle cultural propaganda and education. Officials from the Party History Research Office of the Shaoxing Municipal Party Committee stated that Shaoxing City will take the opportunity of the pilot construction of the national local chronicle cultural education base to accelerate the construction of Shaoxing City Local Records Hall, Zhang Xuecheng Local Records Hall, Yuecheng District Local Records Hall, etc. At the same time, we will consolidate and improve the exhibition level of existing venues, continuously enrich and expand the forms and content of activities, fully leverage the role and functions of the base, and ultimately achieve full coverage of local chronicles at the city level and in various districts and counties (cities).
