On the afternoon of December 31st, 2021, Baixijiang Campus of Weishan No.1 Primary School Education Group in Dongyang was beaming, hosted by the United Front Work Department of the Municipal Party Committee (Religious Affairs Bureau) and hosted by Baixijiang Campus, the launching ceremony of “National Unity and Family Join Hands to Celebrate the New Year” and the school-based teaching materials for national unity education was held here.
At the activity site, children dressed in ethnic costumes such as Zhuang, Yao, Miao and Buyi, waving bright red national flags, showed their best wishes for the New Year and the Chinese nation’s reunion in the interweaving of songs and dances. The children of the school’s calligraphy club also splashed ink, using the word “Fu” to reflect the smiling faces of every teacher, student and guest.
It is understood that there are 271 minority students in Baixijiang Campus from 16 ethnic minorities including Zhuang, Yao, Miao, Buyi, Gelao and Tujia, accounting for 20.77% of the total number of students.
In recent years, with the care and support of the United Front Work Department of Dongyang Municipal Committee (Religious Affairs Bureau), the Municipal Education Bureau and other departments, the school has always placed the strengthening of national unity education in an important position, and has put national unity education through all aspects of education. While steadily improving the quality of education and teaching, the school highlights the national characteristics of running a school. By carrying out ethnic integration education, innovating carriers to create an atmosphere, and caring for the rights and interests of minority students, the tree of “national unity and progress education” is deeply rooted in the fertile soil of primary education.
As the first school-based textbook in Dongyang with the introduction of national culture as the main content, Pomegranate Seed takes the education of national unity as the teaching goal, and includes the natural scenery, folk customs, culture and art of 17 ethnic groups including Han, Mongolian, Miao and Yi. Zhou Guiyao, editor-in-chief of Pomegranate Seed and head of Baixijiang Campus, said that the use of this textbook not only enables teachers and students to further understand the cultures of various ethnic groups, but also enables ethnic minority students to have a sense of identity and belonging in a foreign land, so that they can better integrate into the beautiful atmosphere of the people of all ethnic groups.
