“We should learn from the experience of Shanghai’s Huangpu District and take urban renewal as the main line to promote regional economic development; Conscientiously learn from the experience of Nanjing’s Gulou District, do fine and meticulous old city renovation ‘brush painting’, so that citizens can share more urban development achievements…” A few days ago, at the second alliance conference of the Alliance for High-quality Development of the Central Urban Areas of Major Cities in the Yangtze River Delta, the relevant person in charge of Suzhou Gusu District said in his speech. This attitude is not just polite.
In 2021, the Alliance for the High-quality Development of the Central Urban Areas of Major Cities in the Yangtze River Delta was established, and the nine central urban areas from the Yangtze River Delta cities began a journey of strong linkage and high-quality integration.
Cooperation is also about finding an answer. The central urban area is an important bearer of the city’s cultural memory, witnessing the prosperity and development of the city, but at the same time, it is also facing the new proposition of urban renewal and energy level improvement. How to find the balance between urban protection and renewal development is a must-answer question in front of the central urban area of the Yangtze River Delta. As the only national historical and cultural city reserve in China, Gusu District led the second alliance conference on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of its establishment, and combined with the theme of “ancient city protection and urban renewal”, exchanged with Shanghai Huangpu District and Hangzhou Shangcheng District around their own characteristic practices.
The exchange of experience can just enable these central urban areas in the Yangtze River Delta to learn from each other and work together to find the best solution. At the conference, a group of alliances officially signed a contract for deepening cooperation. Among them, 9 state-owned asset groups jointly established the Ancient City Protection and Urban Renewal Development Consortium in the central urban areas of major cities in the Yangtze River Delta, and will carry out joint innovation and exploration around historical and cultural heritage protection cooperation and urban renewal paths in the future, and jointly create a new paradigm of urban renewal and development in the central urban area of the Yangtze River Delta.
