If human beings immigrate to outer space in the future, the most ideal “space food” is quinoa, which is claimed by NASA. Quinoa is the staple food of the ancient Inca people, which is considered by FAO to be the only “all-nutritious food” in the world where a single plant can meet the basic nutritional needs of the human body. International nutritionists call it the lost ancient “nutritional gold”, “super grain” and “future food”. However, since it was introduced to China, quinoa has been rooted in the northwest plateau and rarely cultivated in the south.
Yesterday, the reporter got good news from Zhejiang Provincial Department of Agriculture and Zhejiang Academy of Agricultural Sciences. After sowing in spring and summer, the quinoa varieties independently selected by our province were successfully planted for the first time in the mountainous areas of Zhejiang Province, and our province became the first province and city in the Yangtze River basin to successfully plant quinoa.
In the autumn of October, surrounded by mountains in Qingyuan baishanzu, Lishui, the front and back of villagers’ houses and their own fields are full of red quinoa from Huang Chengcheng. At present, it is the harvest season of quinoa in every household, and the heavy ears of wheat bend the branches.
Happy in my heart is associate researcher Li Fuzhen, a dry grain expert from the Provincial Academy of Agricultural Sciences. Li Fuzhen told Qianbao reporter: “In 2015, the state established the Quinoa Society. In that year, with the mentality of giving it a try, it introduced quinoa seed resources from the United States and Shanxi Province, and carried out trial planting in the alpine areas of our province.”
After three years of field experiments and careful breeding, Li Fuzhen found that quinoa likes cold and dry climate, and is suitable for cultivation in the mountains above 1000 meters above sea level in Zhejiang. The growing period is only 100 days, which is more than 30% shorter than that in the northwest, so it can be planted twice a year (only one season a year in the northwest plateau).
This spring, Li Fuzhen, together with Lu Hongfa, a provincial science and technology correspondent, and with the support of the provincial agriculture department and the provincial science and technology department, and the villagers in baishanzu Town, Qingyuan, carried out a trial planting of quinoa in two seasons, one in summer and one in autumn.
“At present, quinoa is cultivated in Shanxi, Qinghai and Inner Mongolia in northwest China, and the quality of Qinghai is more outstanding. In the first year of trial planting this year, the quality of quinoa in Zhejiang has been equivalent to that in Qinghai. Now, farmers are very enthusiastic about planting, and I believe that the cultivation area of quinoa in the province will increase next year. ” Li Fuzhen said.
