Shi Feng, deputy director of the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism and director of the Jiangsu Provincial Bureau of Cultural Relics, said in Nanjing on the 12th that in recent years, Jiangsu has actively adapted to the way of displaying and creating cultural relics in the digital age, and promoted the creation of a “smart museum” and a “borderless museum” to digitally display and disseminate cultural relics.
On the same day, the launching ceremony of the 2022 “May 18th International Museum Day” in Jiangsu, co-sponsored by Jiangsu Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism (Provincial Cultural Relics Bureau) and Suzhou Municipal People’s Government, was held in the form of online and offline integration and linkage between Nanjing Museum and Suzhou Museum West Hall.
Open the website, accompanied by elegant music, visitors can “cloud” into many museums in Jiangsu, carefully taste a piece of exquisite cultural relics, and the close-up and distant view alternately show people as if they were there, and feast their eyes.
Since the outbreak of the COVID-19 epidemic in 2020, Jiangsu has encouraged museums to make full use of digital technology, online existing digital resources in time, and actively build an all-round, three-dimensional and multi-level “borderless museum” that can see, listen, learn and play, and strive to meet the spiritual and cultural needs of the public during the epidemic prevention and control period.
By launching a variety of new cultural products such as open museum classes, cultural relics games, and cultural relics audio-visual programs, museums all over Jiangsu use new technologies to let visitors “stay at home and travel all over the museum”. Among them, 33 projects were selected into the national museum online exhibition resource database promoted by the State Administration of Cultural Heritage, accounting for one tenth of the country.
The theme of this year’s “May 18th International Museum Day” is “The Power of Museums”, and Jiangsu has specially opened a special area of “Natural History on the Cloud-Digital Exhibition Space of Jiangsu Provincial Museums”, focusing on nearly 100 fine cloud exhibition projects in the province, so as to make the cultural relics hidden in museums “alive”. During this period, museums in Jiangsu Province will launch 154 new exhibitions and special exhibitions, 158 educational activities, and carry out 162 activities such as serving communities, military camps, schools, enterprises, cultural and creative competitions and public welfare appraisal.
“These activities have distinct themes, rich contents, diverse forms and obvious characteristics.” Shi Feng said that all kinds of museums at all levels in Jiangsu will launch a series of cultural and tourism integration projects around the theme activity season of “Natural History and Travel” to provide the public with a journey of exploration and experience; The exhibition projects such as The Power of Museums: Bringing a Better Life, Special Exhibition of Cultural Relics from Qinhuai River to Yangtze River-Nanjing Section of Yangtze River Culture, Growing Up in Museums, etc. interpret the “Power of Museums” from different perspectives; The annual “Wonderful Night in Nanbo” will continue to be held, and the theme exhibitions such as “Canal History” and “Mobile Memorial Hall” will be presented wonderfully.
