In order to deepen the exchanges between China and Thailand and expand the cooperation between the two countries in the field of science and technology, Wang Jian, deputy director of the Science and Technology Department of Zhejiang Province, and his party were invited to participate in the exchange and cooperation conference of Thai scientists in China held by the Ministry of Science and Technology of Thailand in Zijingang Campus of Zhejiang University on March 21st. Nearly 100 Thai scientists attended the meeting, including Pagata Chayapeng, science and technology consultant of Princess Sirindhorn of Thailand, Sulenit Tesselsam, permanent secretary-general of the Ministry of Science and Technology of Thailand, and Tang Zhimin, dean of the International College of Chia Tai School of Management of Thailand.
At the meeting, Wang Jian, on behalf of Zhejiang Science and Technology Department, expressed warm congratulations on the holding of this exchange conference, and expressed heartfelt thanks to Thai guests and friends for their long-term support and help to Zhejiang’s scientific and technological work. In his speech, Wang Jian introduced the economic and technological work of Zhejiang Province and its cooperation with international science and technology, and reviewed the cooperation between Zhejiang and Thailand in the field of scientific and technological innovation.
Wang Jian said that Zhejiang and Thailand have a good foundation in scientific and technological innovation cooperation, and the consensus on intergovernmental scientific and technological cooperation has been deepening. In recent years, Thai Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister have visited Hangzhou successively and met with Zhejiang entrepreneurs. The Thai government and Zhejiang enterprises have reached cooperation in many fields such as e-commerce development, e-commerce talent training, logistics and supply chain system. In January this year, a scientific and technological delegation from the Provincial Science and Technology Department visited Thailand, and reached an intention to sign a memorandum on scientific and technological cooperation with the National Science and Technology Development Agency of Thailand, forming a draft memorandum.
Wang Jian said that there is great room for cooperation between Zhejiang and Thailand, and he hopes to take this conference as an opportunity to promote closer and in-depth exchanges and cooperation in scientific and technological innovation and industrial development. He put forward four suggestions: first, promote substantive cooperation between the two governments, accelerate the cooperation between the provincial science and technology department and the Thai science and technology department, sign a memorandum of cooperation as soon as possible, and establish a long-term cooperation mechanism; The second is to strive for the establishment of industrial joint R&D projects, which will be jointly established by the two sides to support bilateral scientific and technological enterprises’ industrial R&D cooperation projects facing the international market and aiming at industrialization. The third is to promote the exchange, transfer and transformation of technical project achievements between the two sides, build an innovative cooperation platform from the government level, organize regular docking exchanges, and encourage Zhejiang enterprises to “go global”. Fourth, expand the cooperation between the two sides in innovation and entrepreneurship, strengthen the exploration of cooperation in science and technology parks and incubators, and build an international science and technology industrial park and incubator based on Sino-Thai Luo Yong Industrial Park to jointly promote the two-way incubation of innovation and entrepreneurship projects. During the talks between Wang Jian and the senior officials of Thailand’s Ministry of Science and Technology, such as Suleniteser Sam and Prata Jayapong, the two sides unanimously agreed that the Provincial Science and Technology Department and Thailand’s Ministry of Science and Technology would reach a framework for scientific and technological innovation cooperation, and the substantive cooperation contents would be defined under the framework.
In recent years, more and more Zhejiang enterprises have chosen to invest in Thailand. According to relevant materials, the Sino-Thai Luo Yong Industrial Park established by Zhejiang Huali Group and Thailand Anmeide Group has gathered a number of Zhejiang enterprises such as Fortis Group, Zhongce Rubber Group and Dunan Group. In 2015, enterprises entering the park realized sales of 2.4 billion US dollars, and accumulated sales of 6.5 billion US dollars. Professor gentile from kasetsart university and Professor Chen Kunsong from Zhejiang University have carried out in-depth cooperation in the fields of agricultural products processing, fruit quality preservation and storage, and jointly established a Sino-Thai joint research center for postharvest biology and logistics technology. In January this year, a delegation from the National Science and Technology Development Agency of Thailand visited Hangzhou Zhejiang University Tricolor Instrument Co., Ltd., and the two sides will cooperate to build an LED testing laboratory in Thailand.
