Arable land is the lifeblood of grain production, and in order to fully implement the decisions and arrangements of the central authorities, provinces, and municipalities on the work of rectifying wasteland, and firmly adhere to the bottom line of ensuring national food security, Ouhai has taken the improvement of wasteland as a key task in agriculture this year. On May 19, Lou Jue, a science and technology commissioner stationed in Guoxi Street, went to Dingyun Family Farm in Jiafu Village to provide technical guidance services for the recultivation and replanting of wasteland.
Due to years of desertion, the family farm has shrubs, overgrown weeds, many gravel, thin tillage layer, barren soil, poor irrigation conditions, which is not conducive to the cultivation of most crops, and the selection of suitable crop varieties and the use of corresponding supporting cultivation techniques have become an urgent problem for farmers.
To this end, science and technology commissioner Lou Jue rushed to Dingyun Family Farm to investigate the cultivation structure and soil layer of the wasteland, analyze and judge the local climate, soil and water resources, and combine the actual situation to propose planting water-saving and drought-resistant rice on the wasteland. Water-saving and drought-resistant rice not only has the characteristics of high yield and high quality of rice, but also has the water-saving and drought-resistant characteristics of upland rice, and its yield and rice quality are basically the same as that of rice, but it can save more than 50% of water. Next, science and technology commissioner Lou Jue will provide the family farm with a number of new water-saving and drought-resistant rice varieties and regularly carry out on-site technical guidance to help farmers better promote the recultivation and replanting of abandoned farmland.
This scientific and technological service activity actively responded to the call of the state to “control wasteland”, through the introduction of new planting varieties, strengthen the confidence and determination of farmers to return to farming and production, arm agriculture with scientific and technological forces, constantly revitalize land resources, and make sleeping land resources “live” again.
