The China Port Museum is located in Beilun District, Ningbo City, with a construction area of 40987 square meters. It was completed and opened in October 2014. It is a “National Brand” themed museum officially named by the State Council. Currently, it is a national first-class museum and a national 4A level tourist attraction. The China Port Museum currently has a collection of over 15000 cultural relics and over 12000 professional books and materials, making it one of the richest cultural and museum institutions in China that collect and display port themed cultural relics and historical materials. In recent years, the China Port Museum has given full play to the museum’s social education function and the role of a patriotic education base. Relying on its collection resources and port culture themes, based on its own unique advantages, it has deeply tapped its potential, created highlights, and integrated national cultural publicity and education into the promotion, education, and inheritance of marine culture and port culture, striving to build an educational carrier and platform for the common spiritual home of the Chinese nation.
1、 Build a “six plus one” exhibition and display system, and carry out publicity and education of Chinese port characteristic culture. Relying on six fixed displays and one temporary exhibition hall, the museum constitutes a basic display system with the “Port to the World” historical display of Chinese ports, the “Innovation Road” modern port knowledge display, and the “Underwater Archaeology in China” thematic display as the main body, supplemented by the Port Science Exploration Museum and the Digital Ocean Experience Museum. Integrating the heritage of port history, popularization of port knowledge, exploration of port science and technology, popularization of underwater archaeological knowledge, dissemination of local culture, and leisure and entertainment, the museum has become a lifelong education place that combines education with pleasure. On average, it receives 500000 visitors every year and provides over 1200 interpretation services every year. Further promoting the history and culture of Ningbo and Beilun, providing visitors with a rich feast of port and marine culture, and becoming an important position for cultural communication among various ethnic groups.
2、 Construct a matrix of four thematic education activities to provide spiritual and cultural feasts for the people of all ethnic groups. Create a matrix of four thematic educational activities for different levels of non ethnic groups: “Hong Kong Expo Forum”, “I grow with Hong Kong Expo”, “Mobile Museum”, and “Exploring the Ancient and Seeking the Secret”. Experts from both inside and outside the province were invited to hold a series of lectures on the theme of museums, combining local culture and port culture, to expand the cultural horizons of the masses and promote China’s excellent traditional culture. “I grow with Hong Kong Expo” youth experience activity was held. Joining hands with 10 primary and secondary schools to organize “Museums on Campus” activities and develop three research courses with different themes, including “Archaeology Across the Millennium”. Celebrating festivals such as Science Popularization Day, Cultural Heritage Day, International Museum Day, and China Navigation Day, we fully utilize resources such as exhibition halls, exhibition boards, cultural relics, and equipment to carry out social education activities in various forms such as self-service guided tours, interactive exhibition hall experiences, and popular science lectures. Continue to organize “mobile museums” to enter villages, communities, and enterprises in the district, carry out ordering services, and strive to create a good atmosphere for people of all ethnic groups to live, learn, and enjoy together. Carry out “exploring ancient and seeking seclusion” activities, organize the masses, especially young people, to visit the historical and cultural heritage in Beilun, such as ancient buildings, ancient sites, etc., so that the people of all ethnic groups can understand the history of Beilun and the long-standing Qiqiao culture, coastal defense war culture, and ancient architectural culture, and let more people pay attention to the current situation of cultural relics in our region. More than 70 temporary special exhibitions were held, including “Snow Desert Exquisite: Himalayan and Mongolian Treasures” and “Banner Elegant Charm – Manchu Costume Exhibition in the Qing Dynasty Collected by Jilin Provincial Museum”, which received widespread praise from the people of various ethnic groups and greatly enriched their leisure life.
3、 Build an educational practice base platform and further expand channels for cultural exchanges and integration among various ethnic groups. Relying on the “Port to the World” International Port Culture Forum and the “Underwater Archaeology Ningbo Forum”, we have invited well-known marine and port culture experts and scholars from the United States, France, Japan, Australia, and other countries to give lectures and hold exhibitions in the museum. We have established educational practice bases with Jilin University, Sun Yat-sen University, Rivers, Oceans, and other domestic universities to jointly carry out thematic research on the Maritime Silk Road and ancient ports, and have published a series of research results, For example, “Hong Kong Connects the World” International Port Culture Forum Papers Collection, “” Underwater Archaeology in China “Special Exhibition Atlas, and so on. Introduce digital technology and apply it to the Magic Wall display system to support digital interaction between visitors and exhibits. Create a children friendly museum and open a children’s picture book reading area in the museum. The exhibition information, social education activities, knowledge popularization and cultural and creative products are released online through new media such as WeChat official account to further expand the scope of publicity and education on national unity and progress.
