Recently, AECOM and Tea (The Entertainment Association) jointly released the 2020 Global Theme Parks and Museums Report. In the list of the top 20 museums in the world released together, Zhejiang Museum and six domestic museums, including China National Museum, Shanghai Science and Technology Museum, Nanjing Museum, science and technology hall, and National Palace Museum, are among them.
Founded in 1929, Zhejiang Museum was originally named “Zhejiang West Lake Museum”. After more than 90 years of development, it has become the largest comprehensive humanities museum in Zhejiang Province, forming a new pattern of multi-level display and service to the society, including Gushan Museum, Wulin Museum, celebrities’ former residence, and cultural relics protection and research base. At present, the museum has more than 100,000 pieces of cultural relics and specimens, which are rich in cultural items and complete in chronological sequence. Among them, Hemudu culture, Liangzhu culture, representative cultural relics of Yue culture, celadon of Yue kiln and Longquan kiln, Buddhist cultural relics of the Five Dynasties and the Song Dynasty, gold and silver coins of the Southern Song Dynasty, calligraphy and painting of Zhejiang School, rubbings of epigraphy, lacquerware of past dynasties, etc. are all precious historical relics with great characteristics and academic value.
Since the beginning of this year, faced with the severe challenge of COVID-19 epidemic, Zhejiang Museum has persisted in taking the public’s cultural needs as the guide, strived to innovate museum exhibition forms, and made full use of its strengths to provide high-quality public cultural services to the public. We have successively planned and launched red theme exhibitions such as “Zhejiang is more than well-off-eight windows to see wonderful Zhejiang” and “Theme exhibition to celebrate the centenary of the founding of the Communist Party of China (CPC)” and historical and cultural exhibitions such as “Zhejiang starts here in ten thousand years-exhibition of cultural archaeological achievements in the mountains” and “Man and God-mysterious ancient Shu civilization”, and launched a series of online exhibitions represented by “two for the road-China ancient female image cloud exhibition”. Once these exhibitions were launched, they were warmly welcomed and praised by the public, which greatly enriched people’s spiritual and cultural life during the epidemic. At the same time, the 100,000-square-meter new museum construction project is progressing in an orderly manner and has entered the stage of exhibition. In addition, the “Protection and Restoration Project of Porcelain Unearthed from Shuiqiu’s Tomb in Lin ‘an City” implemented by the technical team of the museum was awarded as “National Top Ten Cultural Relics Collection Restoration Project in 2021” and “two for the road-China Ancient Female Image Cloud Exhibition” was awarded as the National Top Ten Cultural Heritage Dissemination Project. This reflects that the Zhejiang Museum has faithfully carried out the mission of telling the history and telling the “Zhejiang Story” under the situation of the epidemic situation, and has shown strong development momentum and vitality.
