The closing meeting of the 29th meeting of the Standing Committee of the 13th Sichuan Provincial People’s Congress was held in Chengdu on the 29th, at which the “Regulations on the Protection of Sanxingdui Sites in Sichuan Province” was voted to pass.
The Sanxingdui site is an important symbol of the ancient Shu civilization, and an important empirical evidence of the origin and development of the diversity and integration of Chinese civilization, as well as the splendid achievements. In September 2020, the Sanxingdui site was included in the list of the first batch of national cultural relics protection and utilization demonstration areas; In January 2021, the Sichuan Provincial Party Committee and the Sichuan Provincial Government established a leading group for the establishment of the Sichuan Guanghan Sanxingdui National Cultural Relics Protection and Utilization Demonstration Zone to coordinate and promote the construction of the demonstration area.
In June 2020, the Standing Committee of the Deyang Municipal People’s Congress launched legislation on the protection of Sanxingdui sites and began drafting the text of regulations. In March 2021, the important new archaeological discovery of the Sanxingdui site caused a great sensation at home and abroad. It is time to provide legal guarantees for the protection and management of Sanxingdui sites and formulate regulations at the provincial level. To this end, the Sichuan Provincial Party Committee decided to “upgrade and speed up” the Sanxingdui site protection legislation. The Standing Committee of the Sichuan Provincial People’s Congress has conducted in-depth on-the-spot research and guidance on many occasions, studied and arranged relevant work, and accelerated the legislative process.
Xie Pingchang, deputy director of the Cultural Relics and Heritage Department of Sanxingdui Museum, said in an interview that the legislation will strengthen the implementation of the protection of the Sanxingdui site, promote the improvement of the long-term mechanism for site safety, and ensure the sustainable use of precious cultural relics resources, which is of far-reaching significance for nourishing the roots of humanities, enriching the people’s spiritual home, and practicing cultural self-confidence.
