Chopping, quick-freezing, packaging… A few days ago, in the Shange Industrial Park, Dajiao Town, Wencheng County, Wenzhou City, a root of glutinous rice yam was processed by the production line, and the original rough “rough man” turned into a smooth and beautiful “pretty girl” – Zheng Jianming, a large glutinous rice yam grower in Wencheng County, signed a cooperation agreement with Hema Xiansheng to supply them with glutinous rice yam pure vegetables at a price of 7.5 yuan per kilogram, with a monthly sales volume of more than 200000 kilograms.
Behind Zheng Jianming’s taste of the sweet, Wencheng County Science and Technology Bureau and Wencheng County Agricultural and Health Research Institute successfully built the province’s first processing line of glutinous rice yam with SC certification, which not only effectively extended the storage period of glutinous rice yam, but also realized the transformation from bulk to quantitative packaging.
Alpine vegetable and fruit industry has always been the key agricultural industry in Wencheng, accounting for more than 50% of the total agricultural output value. As one of Wencheng’s characteristic agricultural products, glutinous rice yam has strict requirements for storage environment: if the humidity is too high and the temperature is more than 20 ℃, the yam is easy to rot, and if the temperature is lower than 10 ℃, it will cause freeze damage, and if there is a slight bump during transportation, the whole root will rot due to broken skin. The difficulty of storage and transportation of glutinous rice yam has always been a stumbling block to its “going out”.
How to solve the problem? Wencheng County Agricultural and Health Research Institute arranged experts to conduct field research and found that the glutinous rice yam can extend its shelf life to 12 months after being processed by peeling, quick-freezing and other processes to achieve annual supply. However, Wencheng agricultural enterprises are small in scale and have a weak foundation. There are risks such as high costs and technical difficulties in purchasing equipment for processing.
In order to get through the “last mile” of local farmers’ income increase, Wencheng County Science and Technology Bureau and Wencheng County Agricultural and Health Research Institute invested more than 2 million yuan to develop and customize a pilot production line of fresh cut and frozen glutinous rice yam. The production line can not only be used to verify the scientific research test parameters, but also can process glutinous rice and yam products for a large number of growers. The processing capacity can reach up to 8 tons per day, effectively reducing the investment risk of growers and promoting the increase of income from the export of yam.
“After processing, glutinous rice and yam become pure vegetables, and the sales price has doubled.” Deng Changbin, director of the Science and Technology Innovation and Cooperation Service Center of Wencheng County Science and Technology Bureau, told reporters that the production line can also process all kinds of fruits and vegetables, and farmers only need to make an appointment in advance to pay the basic costs of labor, water and electricity generated in the production process before they can use it.
