One beam, one pillar, one stone, one tile freeze the old time. A “stone” museum stands quietly on the bank of the Tanghe River. Scholars, Zen tea and flowerware, and like-minded people, come here after the end of their lives. The Qingdeng bazaar, which sprouted from the Qingdeng Stone Carving Art Museum, has rapidly become the new “traffic IP” of the national bazaar in a very short time, and has also attracted the public’s attention to the “museum craze”.
At the 13th Party Congress of Wenzhou City, the city orientation of “millennium commercial port and happy Wenzhou” was clearly defined, and it was proposed to “build the city of China’s private museums”, placing the building of the city of China’s private museums in an unprecedented prominent position. In recent years, private museums in Wenzhou have shown a vigorous trend. According to statistics, there are 30 private museums registered in Wenzhou by 2021. As a useful supplement to the state-owned museums in Wenzhou, they have become an important part of the museum system.

Private museums are in the ascendant
Go out of the innovative road of “supporting the library with the library”
Some people say that to quickly understand a city, going to a museum is the most convenient way. Inside, there are concentrated local unique landmark cultural relics. Hu Nianwang, director of the Cultural Relics Department of Wenzhou Municipal Bureau of Culture, Radio, Television and Tourism (Cultural Relics Bureau), said that the museum should be the first attraction for foreign tourists, the second classroom for students in the city where it is located, and the third space for local citizens to enjoy leisure life.
In recent years, private museums in Wenzhou have blossomed everywhere, and a number of industrial museums, such as Ye Tongren Museum of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Yueqing Tiefengtang Dendrobium Museum, Longwan Baishui Folk Museum, Dongtou East China Sea Shell Sculpture Museum, have sprung up; Longwan Yongchang Museum, Anti-American and Korean Aid History Education Museum, Rui’an Longshan Educated Youth Museum, Yueqing Puqi Folk Museum and other museums that integrate patriotism education, revolutionary party history learning education and research experience.

Longwan Baishui Folk Custom Museum
Rice bucket ladder, sugar grinder, wedding sedan… In the Longwan Baishui Folk Custom Museum, old objects make people “cross” time. Jiang Ruiyu is the owner of this folk custom museum, and his other identity is the owner of a valve enterprise in Longwan District. In his view, in recent years, the number of old folk items has become less and less, and their loss has also taken away cultural memories, We have signed the intention of helping and co-building in the business activities of collection lending, collection protection, cooperative exhibition, exhibition and exhibition, and extensively carried out all-round exchanges and cooperation.
It is easy to open the museum, but difficult to “maintain” it
The “maintenance” museum needs more water and long flow

Ye Tongren Museum of Traditional Chinese Medicine
“It is easy to open the museum, but it is difficult to ‘maintain’ the museum!” Gao Qixin, deputy director of Wenzhou Museum, said, “The maintenance of the museum is a long process, and many folk collectors often fail to keep up with the later operation after opening the museum.” Hu Nianwang pointed out that private museums mainly have problems such as insufficient operating funds, lack of professional knowledge and talent, Dong Shu, curator of Wenzhou Museum, believes that the biggest dilemma of private museums is “how to continue”. The descendants of many folk collectors are not interested in cultural relics and museums, that is, there may be “no successor” in the museum.
During the “two sessions”, Zhang Jincheng, member of the Municipal Committee of the CPPCC and curator of the Qingdeng Stone Carving Art Museum, also submitted the Proposal on Building Tanghe Museum Group and Helping to Create a City of Chinese Private Museums, putting forward the concrete manifestations of the difficulty of “maintaining” the museum: first, the agglomeration effect is not obvious; Second, the regional characteristics are not prominent enough, and there are problems such as single products and similar positioning; Third, the industrial support is not strong.
“Private” and “public” complement and help each other
All parties need to work hard to overcome the difficulties
Dong Shu said that compared with the “large and complete” of public museums, private museums are characterized by “small and specialized” and distinctive features, which form a beneficial complement with public museums. At present, Ouhai, Dongtou, Ruian, Yueqing, Yongjia and other places have successively issued supporting documents to award and supplement local non-state museums, and take advantage of the technology and talent advantages of the state-owned museums in their jurisdiction to carry out the cooperation and assistance of state-owned museums.
Gao Qixin introduced that Wenzhou Museum, as a first-level museum, has set up an agreement with more than ten museums to help build the city’s “program”. The special museum uses the cultural protection units in the four historical blocks of the old city in the form of “flower arrangement” to create a pattern of one museum, one person (object). The museums along the Tanghe River have begun to take shape, and the Qingdeng Market, a cultural fair founded by the Qingdeng Stone Carving Art Museum, is getting better; Yanyuan Art Museum has broken through the barrier of cultural relics exchange between state-owned museums and non-state museums, and is leading the way in highlighting local celebrity culture. The Baishui Folk Custom Museum in Longwan is a large cultural and tourism article that can be fully integrated. Through the integration and activation of resources, a “one-stop” mode of display+catering+cultural innovation is formed to maximize the vitality of cultural consumption.
Next, our city will increase its assistance to private museums, such as further simplifying the approval process, clarifying the specific content of policy support and preferential policies, establishing incentive mechanisms, providing land security and other convenience. Of course, overcoming the difficulties requires efforts of all parties, not only relying solely on government “blood transfusion”, but also “private” itself needs to work hard to speed up the pace of development.
