“The main body of the kiln site excavated in the Dayao area belongs to the Ming Dynasty. This archaeological project of’ Pavilion Back Kiln Site’ can fill the gap of celadon development and technology inheritance in Song, Yuan and Ming Dynasties, and help to sort out the development of celadon initially. ” Liu Jian ‘an, director of the Han, Tang, Song and Yuan Archaeological Office of Zhejiang Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology, and the head of the archaeological excavation project of Longquan “Tinghou Kiln Site”, introduced this. On the “Cultural and Natural Heritage Day” in 2022, the archaeological project of “Tinghou Kiln Site” in Longquan Kiln of Dayao was officially started in Dayao Village, Xiaomei Town, Longquan City.
It is understood that the preliminary investigation of “Tinghou Kiln Site” is a kiln site from the mid-Northern Song Dynasty to the Yuan and Ming Dynasties. The remains of kilns and workshops are well preserved, which is of representative significance for exploring the production status and technical inheritance of Longquan Kiln Central Kiln Area in Song and Yuan Dynasties and improving the development of celadon in Longquan Kiln. In the past, the archaeological work of Dayao Longquanyao site was mostly scattered, and the excavated kiln site only shows Fengdongyan kiln site at present, which seriously affected the construction and tourism development of Dayao Longquanyao National Archaeological Site Park, and also led to the limitation of academic research and understanding of famous Longquan kiln for many years.
This year, in order to cooperate with the construction of the Maritime Silk Road, a national heritage route, Zhejiang Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology, together with the Palace Museum and the Municipal Cultural Relics Protection Center, selected the “Tinghou Kiln Site”, a big kiln dating back to the Song, Yuan and Ming Dynasties, for archaeological excavation. With the approval of the State Administration of Cultural Heritage, archaeological work was carried out from April to December this year, with an archaeological area of about 500 square meters.
Provincial Archaeological Institute has been stationed in Dayao Village on May 13th. The Party Committee and Government of Xiaomei Town, Longquan City went all out to complete the policy treatment of 35 mu of woodland and 6 mu of fields in the whole archaeological excavation site and the relocation of graves in the core area in just one week. To help the construction of Longquan Kiln National Archaeological Site Park in Dayao, Longquan also specially set up the Women’s Protection Team, the Compulsory Protection Patrol Team and the Cultural Protection Volunteer Service Team in Xiaomei Town to help publicize and protect the “Pavilion Back Kiln Site”.
After preliminary archaeological excavations, Longquan City will unveil the “mystery veil” of the “Tinghou Kiln Site” located at the Aodi Aokou of Dayao Village in October. At that time, the kiln area of “Tinghou Kiln Site” and the areas where the residual products are piled up on both sides will be displayed in front of the world.
