On June 8th, Zhejiang Museum’s annual exhibition “The Treasure Beyond the Land-100 Cultural Relics Telling the Story of Zhejiang” met with the audience at the West Lake Art Museum in Zhejiang. The exhibition gathered 100 cultural relics from 39 cultural institutions in the province, and along the historical context from prehistoric times to the Ming and Qing Dynasties, presented the audience with the wonderful historical imprint and unique regional culture of Zhejiang.
Take the exhibition history as the line and tell the story of Zhejiang with cultural relics.
Each group (piece) of cultural relics in the exhibition “The Treasure Beyond the Land” corresponds to a section of Zhejiang history and culture. If the whole history of Zhejiang is compared to a wonderful and complete performance, then the historical stories corresponding to these cultural relics are one of the wonderful “folding plays”.
The exhibition is divided into six units: the first unit, “Out of Ignorance”, reflects the changes and trends of prehistoric social development in Zhejiang from two blocks: material and spiritual. The second unit “Diligence and Diligence” shows the spirit of pragmatic hard work and self-improvement of ancient Yue people in the surging Spring and Autumn Period. Unit 3 “The Road to Ceramics” reviews the history of Zhejiang ceramics development and the maritime silk road to the world. The fourth unit “Sanskrit Sound” focuses on the development and prosperity of Buddhism in Zhejiang; The fifth unit, “Old Things in Wulin”, presents the elegant life of the royal family in the Southern Song Dynasty and the exquisite life taste of Jiangnan people. Unit 6, “Towards Introspection”, tells the story of the intellectuals of the elite in Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties, who turned around and introspected, and depicted the stories of the times in their own unique ways.
There are many highlights in the exhibits, which are exhibited on a large scale for the first time
The “Beyond the Land Treasure” exhibition brings together the heavyweight cultural relics of 39 cultural institutions in the province. It is really rare to have such a large-scale exhibition. Among the exhibits are famous “star” national treasures, such as the jade cong king of Liangzhu who appeared in the program “National Treasures”; The third batch of Yue Kiln celadon censers unearthed from Shuiqiu Tomb in Lin ‘an, where cultural relics are prohibited from going abroad; Zhao Mengfu, a painter in Yuan Dynasty, described his hometown’s running script “Wu Xing Fu”; As well as the treasures of some museums in the province, such as the pottery bottle of Baosongze culture person in Jiaxing Museum Town Hall, the treasure of Wenzhou Museum Town Hall, the brown-colored plant pattern annotation of Ou kiln in Northern Song Dynasty, etc.
There are also rare “mysterious” cultural relics, such as the golden relic bottle unearthed from Huiguang Tower in Ruian. Longquan kiln gourd bottle unearthed from Qingtian Yuan Dynasty porcelain cellar which was once printed as a stamp; The Ming Dynasty Zheng He’s gold book “The Magic Lotus Sutra” discovered in this Tata Temple in Pinghu, etc.
There are also some cultural relics, although not as famous as the above treasures, which are of great significance. For example, the Liangzhu ivory jade comb unearthed in Haiyan is the only complete Liangzhu ivory comb found so far; The stone relic letter unearthed in Tonglu is the first discovery of the stone relic letter in the Southern Dynasty, which fills the vacancy in the excavation of Buddhist relic containers in the Southern Dynasty and is an important material for studying the relic system in the Southern Dynasty. In addition, the exhibition will also invite the audience to “taste early”. The cultural relics unearthed from Zhao Bo’s tomb in the Southern Song Dynasty discovered in Huangyan, Taizhou in 2016 will also meet with the audience in the exhibition.
The collection and display of fine cultural relics is a highlight of this exhibition. For example, fine bronzes unearthed from Tomb 306 in Shaoxing in the Spring and Autumn Period, which are collected in Zhejiang Museum and Shaoxing Museum respectively, and fine gold and silver wares unearthed in Huzhou, Jinhua, Dongyang, Lin ‘an, Longyou and other places of the Southern Song Dynasty will be exhibited in groups.
Individualized education and service will protect the exhibition.
A number of personalized education and services planned around the special exhibition of “The Treasure Beyond the Land” provide diverse choices for the audience to better experience the exhibition. Special exhibition explanation volunteers will regularly provide free explanation services to the audience in the exhibition hall, and the foreign language explanation system “Translated Scenery” developed by the volunteer team serves audiences from all over the world through eight foreign languages, including English, Japanese, Korean, Russian, Italian, French, German and Spanish. Zhejiang Bo’s special service project “Barrier-free Sign Language Explanation” will also continue to serve special groups in special exhibitions. The exhibition also specially invited the famous anchor of Zhejiang Voice to record audio guide. The audience can listen to it conveniently through Zhebo audio guide applet or through audio guide.
Long before the opening of the exhibition, a series of activities, such as the contest of the Little Guardian of the Overseas Treasures, the treasure of the town hall: the treasure map of Zhejiang Province, the collection of songs of Zhejiang volunteers, and the collection of cultural relics-cultural relics guide words, were in full swing. Among them, the 20 contestants who entered the finals of the “Little Guardian Competition of Yuedi Treasure” will guard the national treasure by recording the voice guide of children’s voice; In the activity of “Cultural Relics Heart Talk-Collection of Cultural Relics Guide Words”, the selected guide words will be displayed simultaneously on the opening day of the exhibition.
After the opening of the exhibition, related educational activities are still wonderful, and “Wenlan Night” will show the audience the “Yue Opera”, the intangible cultural heritage, which is the “treasure beyond the land”. Zhejiang Summer Classroom and Zhejiang Autumn Classroom will focus on the two themes of “Yue’s treasure, green porcelain world” and “Ancient Yue legend”. Ren Daobin, a professor at China Academy of Fine Arts, Yang Zhishui, a researcher at China Academy of Social Sciences, and Guo Sun, an expert and scholar from Zhejiang Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology, will be invited to interpret the cross-border culture behind cultural relics. Children’s favorite handmade experience can not only make cultural relics “live” through various whimsy, but also learn the scientific principles contained in cultural relics through specially developed cultural relics teaching AIDS.
In order to meet the needs of the audience, Zhejiang Museum has developed a number of series of cultural and creative products, especially around cultural relics such as Jade Cong Wang, Jile Copper House, Yuanyang pattern gold pendant, etc., which combine cultural relics elements with daily necessities, and are both practical and interesting. The exhibition also cooperated with China Post to launch commemorative stamps and envelopes of cultural relics, so that the audience can take the museum culture home.
The exhibition will run until October 8th. As a temporary exhibition for public welfare, the full price of exhibition tickets is 30 yuan, and there are corresponding preferential fares for the elderly, active duty soldiers, the disabled, minors and other groups. You can also enjoy a 30% discount when you purchase exhibition catalogues with tickets.
