From January 5 to 7, the third Ancient Forest Winter Ploughing Cultural Festival was held in Taisui Hall, Maoxin Village, Gulin Town, Haishu District. The lively traditional customs and innovative content called on the old and young villagers to participate in this national festival. The activity lasted for three days, with the theme of “sacrificing Taisui, singing big plays, yokes of cattle, ploughing by people; promoting science and technology, leading space flight, focusing on agriculture, and invigorating the countryside”. It continued the traditional customs of “fields need winter cultivation, children need to be born”.
On the basis of building green “ecological agriculture” last year, this year’s winter farming is integrated into the agricultural theme of “aerospace agriculture”, which is full of modern characteristics and innovative style. “In the past, farmers were mainly engaged in farming. Now, agriculture can be connected with some unexpected fields, so that villages can become scenic spots. The combination of efficient planting and agricultural tourism can be upgraded to increase farmers’ income.” The villagers on the scene all praised.
On January 5, Ningbo Ningbo Opera Troupe came specially to support the Winter Farming Festival, presenting two well-known opera programs, Yang Naiwu and Chinese Cabbage and Stay and Burn Incense. The head of the troupe said: “Ningbo Opera is also a unique folk custom in Ningbo. It has been sung for three days in a row on the Winter Farming Festival, which has aroused the simple feelings in the hearts of villagers and visitors. The songs brought here are not only easy to understand, but also full of brave and positive labor spirit.”
Winter farming culture has a long history in ancient forests. According to historical records, the local tradition of winter farming began in the Qing Dynasty, and the local people have long had the custom of sacrificing Taisui and breaking ground on the second day of the lunar month. The local ancestors have a saying: “The fields should be cultivated in winter, and the children should be born by themselves.”
It is reported that the role of “winter farming” is like “auspicious snow augurs a bumper year”, which can eliminate the hibernating insects in the farmland to the maximum extent, greatly reduce the soil pests and diseases, and ensure the harvest of crops in the coming year. In recent years, the ancient forest has held the Winter Farming Festival every year, aiming at inheriting local culture, taking the green ecological agricultural road, and vigorously promoting the importance of winter farming and ecological environmental protection.
