From the crown ornaments of the Neolithic period to the bronze weapons of the Warring States march, from the porcelain incense burners of the Southern Song Dynasty to the wooden food boxes of the Qing Dynasty… Tomorrow (November 13), the special exhibition “Liangdaoshan No. 18 Project” for the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Hangzhou Museum will be officially launched, what are the untold stories behind these cultural relics? What are the highlights of the exhibition? The reporter came to the scene in advance and explored the way for everyone.
This exhibition displays a total of 158 pieces of fine works in the collection, from the Liangzhu culture in the Neolithic period to the 21st century, most of which are closely related to the city of Hangzhou, presenting the history, culture, material life and other human styles of Hangzhou in different periods. Specifically, it includes calligraphy and painting rare books, ceramics, jade seals, metals, coins and folk customs and other cultural relics, of which 77 pieces are exhibited for the first time, such as the styleless bamboo kingfisher picture fan page handed down from the Southern Song Dynasty to the present, which is a rare boutique in the province.
According to Xu Ying, director of the collection management department of the Hangzhou Museum and curator of the “Liangdaoshan No. 18 Project”, this “star exhibit” is 25.3 cm long and 25.5 cm wide, and from the picture, a white-bellied kingfisher stops on the thorny branch, is sleepy, and the overall composition is dense and interesting.
“Because of the peculiarities of paper cultural relics, people rarely see Song paintings in permanent exhibitions.” Xu Ying said that this bamboo kingfisher picture fan page has certain requirements for temperature, humidity and light when exhibited. Therefore, it will only be available for a limited time from November 13 to November 19 and February 8 to February 13, so visitors who want to see it must make sure of the time.
In addition to fine calligraphy and painting, this special exhibition also shows the only Yueyao blue-glazed porcelain Buddha beads in Hangzhou, a total of 99 Buddha beads, scattered when unearthed, but it is very rare that each bead is well preserved. In the Song Dynasty at that time, jewelry was mainly gold and silver, but porcelain as raw material was rare. According to reports, this string of porcelain Buddha beads may be the earliest porcelain Buddha beads unearthed by archaeology nationwide.
In addition, there are 29 first-class cultural relics represented by the Mingwen Zheng Ming Hanke Tu Axis, the Western Jin Dynasty Yue Kiln Green Glaze Beast-shaped Lamp Holder, and the Qinghua Mountain-shaped Pen Holder in Yuanjingde Town, waiting for citizens to come to “check in”.
The exhibition period of the special exhibition is from November 13, 2021 to February 13, 2022, so please remember to cooperate with the epidemic prevention measures.
