On the morning of December 14, the special exhibition “I came from ancient times – the life of prehistoric Ningbo people” opened in Ningbo China Port Museum. Liu He, Director and Cao Hong, Deputy Director of the Cultural Relics Bureau of Zhejiang Province, Mao Hongfang, Member of the Standing Committee of Ningbo Municipal Committee and Secretary of the Beilun District Committee, Han Xiaoyin, Deputy Director of the Municipal Bureau of Culture, Radio, Television, Press and Publication, Chen Zhaohua, Chairman of the CPPCC Beilun District, and other leaders, as well as representatives of cultural and museum institutions and local citizens from all over the province, attended the opening ceremony.
Ningbo, located on the coast of the East China Sea, has a humid climate, dense water network, lush vegetation and superior environment since ancient times. Since about seven or eight thousand years ago, the ancestors have stopped here to survive and multiply, creating a brilliant prehistoric culture. This exhibition takes the life of Ningbo ancestors in prehistoric times as the main line. From five sections of “clothing”, “food”, “housing”, “travel” and “thinking” (spiritual pursuit), it shows people’s living environment, housing and living, livelihood and diet, clothing and textiles, land and water transportation, religious entertainment and other aspects. More than 360 pieces of prehistoric cultural relics unearthed in Ningbo are exhibited in the whole exhibition, including many important cultural relics that can be called “national treasures”, such as double bird sunrise carved teeth, wild boar shaped pottery bowls, eagle shaped pottery beans, etc. In the exhibition and presentation, we adopted a new form of appreciation of both refined and popular tastes and combination of objects and scenes. Through plain and easy to understand language, we told the audience about the real life of our ancestors, such as boats and boats, clay refining and pottery making, spinning and weaving, and needle sewing, and felt their spiritual style of combining pain with pleasure.
The ancestors of Ningbo thousands of years ago not only left many precious cultural relics to future generations, but also brought us endless reverie. Today, we can use these cultural relics to tell stories about the lives of prehistoric Ningbo people, thanks to a group of respectable and lovely archaeologists. It is reported that since the 1950s, archaeology in Ningbo has gone through 60 years of ups and downs. This year also coincides with the 30th anniversary of the founding of Ningbo Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology. Therefore, a book gift ceremony for “Sixty Years of Ningbo Archaeology” will be held at the opening ceremony of the exhibition. This book will interpret ancient Ningbo, including the prehistoric period, from a more comprehensive and academic perspective, and enable people today to have a more intuitive and comprehensive understanding of the past, present and future of Ala Ningbo.
This exhibition is free to the public and will last until March 18, 2018. In order to meet the needs of the audience at different levels, Ningbo China Port Museum has also developed more than 10 special cultural and creative souvenirs for this exhibition, arranged rich public activities such as expert lectures and youth social education, and launched new exhibition methods such as virtual museums and smart guided tours.
