On the morning of March 3, the “Finger Artisan” Zhan Dongming paper-cutting art exhibition, jointly sponsored by Jinhua Cultural Relics Bureau and Lanxi Municipal Cultural Bureau, was grandly opened.
The exhibition is divided into five chapters: characters, folklore, zodiac signs, intangible cultural heritage, and cultural relics, and displays more than 80 pieces/sets of various works created by Mr. Zhan. Among them, there are not only simple and bright window flower works that mean auspiciousness, but also characters with ingenious designs and exquisite carvings, as well as large-scale screens with intricate craftsmanship and breathtaking themes such as Meilan Bamboo Ju, Dream of Red Mansions, and G20 Summit. With a pair of skillful hands and a pair of scissors, Mr. Zhan promotes and inherits the art of paper-cutting left by his ancestors, making it endless, increasingly shining with charming brilliance and charm, telling us wonderful stories between red and white, showing beautiful and moving chapters.
Zhan Dongming, male, born in 1958, is a senior arts and crafts artist, a master of arts and crafts in Zhejiang Province, an outstanding folk art talent in Zhejiang Province, and is currently the deputy secretary-general of Jinhua Arts and Crafts Industry Association (and director of the paper-cutting special committee), and the director of Jinhua paper-cutting museum. Zhan Dongming has been fond of art and paper-cutting art since childhood, and has worked diligently and explored hard for many years, constantly innovated on the basis of traditional paper-cutting art, learned from others’ strengths, and created many paper-cutting works with strong national colors and distinctive personalities, and won many awards.
