On November 25, 2020, Tanzanian Ambassador to China Mbelwo Kairuki, Counsellor Lusekelo Gwassa, and President of the Tanzania-China Chamber of Commerce Abraham Merishani visited the Zhejiang Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism. Chu Ziyu extended a warm welcome to Mbelwo Kairuki and his entourage, and thanked Tanzania for its strong support for the 10,000-person tour of Africa. He pointed out that Zhejiang and Tanzania have a good foundation for cooperation, and Tanzania’s charming scenery, warm people and unique charm have made Zhejiang tourists yearn for it. Zhejiang is an economically strong province, and the per capita income level of urban and rural residents has been in the forefront of the country for many years; It is also a province with large cultural and tourism resources, with four World Heritage Sites and many natural and cultural landscapes. Chu Ziyu said that Zhejiang will spare no effort to promote cooperation with Tanzania in cultural exchanges, art exhibitions, sightseeing tourism, and mutual delivery of tourists, so as to help the win-win development of China and Africa.

Mbelwo Kairuki expressed his gratitude to Zhejiang for its long-term efforts to promote cultural and tourism exchanges and cooperation with Tanzania. He said that he has visited Zhejiang seven times, and the big city and town of Zhejiang make him feel that this is a very loving place. Zhejiang and Tanzania have close cultural and tourism exchanges, especially last year’s 10,000-person tour to Africa project, he also attended the launch ceremony, and more than 300 Zhejiang tourists visited Tanzania. In order to further enhance cultural exchanges, Tanzania plans to establish a Tanzania Cultural Center in Zhejiang to showcase Tanzania’s rich and colorful cultural and tourism elements such as music, art and food, and also hopes to take the planned 2022 China-Tanzania Tourism and Culture Year as an opportunity to promote all-round cooperation with Zhejiang.
