According to the Guangdong Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism on the 17th, since last year, the Guangdong Association for the Protection of Monuments has solicited protection and repair projects for immovable cultural relics such as ancient buildings, ancient sites, important modern and modern historical sites and representative buildings from the whole province, and received a total of 19 application projects in the province, and finally selected 4 typical cases.
The four cases are: the repair project of the octagonal tower in Xiankeng Village, the repair project of the former site of Shantou Jiaotong Middle Station, a secret communication line between the CPC Central Committee and the Central Soviet Area, the repair project of the Dacheng Hall of the Confucian Palace in Haiyang County, and the protection project of the ruins of the Nanyue National Palace Office and the meandering stone canal, the Nanhan Palace and the remains of the well.
According to reports, the selected typical cases adhere to the principles of “not changing the original status of cultural relics” and “minimum intervention”, or adopt traditional materials and technological practices, or rationally use new materials and new technologies, all of which have achieved good engineering results, and have exemplary value in maintaining the safety of cultural relics and continuing the value of cultural relics.
Combining the characteristics of earthen sites and the humid environment in the south, the project of protecting the site of the National Palace of Nanyue and the meandering stone canal, the Nanhan palace and the remains of the well, while using mature materials and processes to rescue and protect the cultural relics with serious diseases, the typical diseases of soil, brick and tile pottery, stone, wood and other materials of the site were carried out on a small-scale experimental exploration, which provided a scientific basis for the follow-up protection work. The research protection mode is adopted in the implementation of this project, which has exemplary and reference significance for the protection of similar sites in southern China.

Located in Heyuan Dongyuan County, the octagonal tower of Xiankeng Village, built in the Qing Dynasty, is a large-scale and representative Hakka walled house in the local area. The renovation project follows the principle of authenticity, adopts traditional materials and craftsmanship for construction, and preserves the historical and artistic value of the cultural heritage building. The project is the first “cultural relics poverty alleviation” project in Guangdong Province, in the poverty alleviation work of “thousands of enterprises helping thousands of villages”, social forces and private funds participate, carry out cultural relics protection practice in rural revitalization, and promote the integration of culture and tourism and local economic development.
Located in the urban area of Chaozhou City, the Dacheng Hall of Confucian Palace in Haiyang County, built in the Ming Dynasty, uses wooden beam frames as the main load-bearing structure, using “connecting columns” and bucket arches with obvious local characteristics, and the wooden components are damaged due to termite erosion and other factors. The repair project adheres to the principle of minimum intervention, adopts non-falling frame repair for wooden beam frames, and strengthens or replaces damaged components by “stealing beams and replacing columns”. In order to protect the integrity and high artistic value of the roof, the roof is protected by means of not falling ridges when the roof is uncovered. (End)
