In the first half of this year, the vitality of Ningbo’s consumer market was released and continued to pick up. According to data released by the Municipal Bureau of Commerce, from January to June, the total retail sales of consumer goods in Ningbo were 216.13 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 19.5%, 3.1 percentage points higher than the province.
Specifically, commodity sales increased by 44.8% year-on-year, of which wholesale sales and retail sales increased by 45.8% and 33.8% year-on-year, respectively, 6 percentage points and 7.7 percentage points higher than the province; Online retail sales were 111.29 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 14.5%.
“This report card shows that with the stable recovery of the social economy, the recovery momentum of Ningbo’s consumer market is increasing, and at the same time, due to the low base of the same period, market sales have rebounded sharply in the first half of the year, and retail sales of goods have grown well.” The relevant person in charge of the Municipal Bureau of Commerce analyzed that this is closely related to the city’s active promotion of the construction of an international consumption city and a “night city” and a full stimulation of the vitality of the domestic economic cycle.
Strong consumption growth is coming from the emergence of urban commercial landmarks. With retail sales of 36 million yuan and passenger flow of more than 250,000 person-times, this is the excellent result of Ningbo’s first “urban complex + Ferris wheel” project. Up to now, 23 multi-level characteristic business districts and 113 large-scale commercial outlets have been built in the six districts of the city, with a total business area of 6.25 million square meters.
The strong consumption growth force comes from the characteristic commercial blocks that are advancing simultaneously. At the beginning of this year, the country’s first immersive new space with opera art (Yong opera) as the experience object was established in Li Zhai, which attracted frequent praise from citizens, which is one of the results of the city’s continuous promotion of the pilot construction of the old Bund National Pedestrian Street. In addition, in the first half of the year, the upgrading of 2 provincial-level pedestrian streets and 29 city-level commercial characteristic streets is also progressing in an orderly manner, and projects such as the Central and Eastern European Youth Venture Capital Center, the Nordic Creative Center and the Nuodi Bookstore have been settled one after another, and the brand effect of Central and Eastern European cuisine and “Poetry and Painting Zhejiang Hundred Counties and Thousand Bowls” has become more prominent.
Ningbo also takes the first-store brand as an important starting point for driving the consumer economy, arranges special funds for first-store economic investment, and actively introduces various first-store stores. In the first half of the year, Ningbo signed a contract to introduce a total of 221 first-store brands, including 13 first stores in China, 3 first stores in East China, and 72 first stores in Zhejiang.
To achieve consumption growth in the domestic cycle, it also needs the promotion of various consumption promotion activities. In the first half of the year, Ningbo implemented the “10 million” consumption promotion activity, launched the 2021 Ningbo “Consumption Promotion Month” and “Zhejiang Lilai Consumption” activities, and launched more than 100 consumption promotion activities around six major sectors, including new fashion consumption experience and offline consumption assistance. Ningbo also released a city consumption map for the first time, promoting and promoting business tour bus lines, attracting consumption to return to the city.
“Looking forward to the 14th Five-Year Plan, we will continue to tap the potential of high-quality consumption, expand traditional consumption, cultivate new consumption, develop service consumption, strive to achieve a total retail sales of 600 billion yuan of social consumer goods by 2025, and cultivate and form a top business district with 10 million traffic.” The relevant person in charge of the Municipal Bureau of Commerce said.
