The Double Ninth Festival is coming every year. Recently, the Hangzhou Religious Research Association and the five major religious groups of the city jointly planned a series of activities with the theme of Chongyang, “The River of Inquiry · Hangzhou Religious Culture Lecture Hall”, so that everyone can savor the cultural depth and passion of Chongyang in the warm autumn scenery, activate the vitality of the excellent traditional Chinese culture with the spirit of the times, further cultivate cultural feelings and strengthen cultural self-confidence.
Tracing back to the source of culture, we can also recall the Double Ninth Festival. On September 28, in Hangzhou Jingci Temple, the advanced unit of the national “Respecting the Elderly Civilization”, Master Shi Lai told the origin and evolution of the Double Ninth Festival in a warm voice, analyzed the development and change of the connotation of “respecting the elderly and filial piety” in the light of the process of the localization of Buddhism in China, and finally extended how Buddhist ideas were integrated with the excellent traditional Chinese culture to provide support for coping with the aging problem in today’s society. On September 29, in Hangzhou Christian Drum Tower Hall, Reverend Zhang Yaofa, president of the Hangzhou Christian Association, quoted the classic quotes of Confucius, Ouyang Xiu and Zheng Banqiao respectively to explain what is “filial piety is the first”. He said that “respecting the elderly” is the most important thing to be grateful. At the end of the lecture, some listeners said that “when you go home today, you should call your parents”. Pastor Sun Yaguo’s “loyalty to the country” relay “filial piety to parents”, a “Motherland in My Heart” vividly shows the sublimation of “from home to the country”.
Cultural experience, feel the beauty of Chongyang. On October 2, Father Fa Quan, director of the Hangzhou Catholic Patriotic Association, said that “every Double Ninth Festival, the Catholic Church will organize the elderly believers to eat Double Ninth Cake and Longevity Noodles, and send them holiday blessings”. When talking about “respecting the elderly and filial piety”, he told us three Chinese folk stories, “laying on ice to beg carp”, “indulging mosquitoes to feed their blood”, and “crying bamboo to grow bamboo shoots”, and reviewed the “new 24 filial piety”. After listening to this, an elderly parishioner was particularly moved to share with you the gratitude of “the Party and the government have given us a sense of security, happiness and dependence in old age”, and a smile blossomed on the old man’s face. The cultural lecture hall also arranged a performance of Yueju Opera. The whole audience felt the most beautiful sunset red in the Chinese traditional opera culture and wished the Double Ninth Festival a long and healthy life.
Cultural heritage shines the light of Chongyang. On September 28, Sijiqing street cadres in Shangcheng District took the elderly in the community into the Hangzhou Mosque and held a new “respect for the elderly” activity with the theme of “welcoming the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, celebrating the Double Ninth Festival in Autumn”. Let’s listen to the culture of the Double Ninth Festival, talk about the festival feelings, and write about patriotism. Imam Yemansu, president of the Islamic Association of Hangzhou, said that on the traditional festival of Chongyang, we should warm the sunset with love, promote the virtue of respecting the elderly with action, and truly implement the sense of building a strong Chinese national community and adhering to the direction of religious localization in China.
“Zhijiang Wenwen · Hangzhou Religion and Culture Lecture Hall” will continue to infiltrate religions with excellent Chinese traditional culture, plan and launch more wonderful classes and activities, and strive to become an important platform for spreading the good voice of Hangzhou’s religions, displaying the good image of Hangzhou’s religions, and giving full play to the positive energy of Hangzhou’s religions.
