On the afternoon of July 8th, the opening ceremony of “2022 Silk Road Week” was held in China Silk Museum.
The event was sponsored by the State Administration of Cultural Heritage and the People’s Government of Zhejiang Province, with Qinghai Province as the guest of honor and Uzbekistan as the guest country. It was organized by the Propaganda Department of committee of cpc zhejiang provincial committee, the Propaganda Department of Qinghai Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China, the Department of Culture and Tourism of Zhejiang Province, Zhejiang Cultural Relics Bureau, Qinghai Cultural Relics Bureau, the Foreign Affairs Office of Zhejiang People’s Government, the Consulate General of Uzbekistan in Shanghai, China Silk Museum and Qinghai Provincial Museum. The theme of the activity is “Ethnic Integration and Common Prosperity”.

At the scene, two exhibitions related to the province and country of guest of honor were opened simultaneously. “Long Clouds in the West Sea: Qinghai Road, the Silk Road of the 6th-8th Century” was opened at the China Silk Museum. The exhibition focused on the archaeology of Tubo in the West Coast of the Taiwan Strait, revealing the great contribution of Qinghai Road in the communication between eastern and western cultures, and its important position in the historical process of pluralistic integration of the Chinese nation. The cooperative exhibition “Silk and Silk Road: From Hangzhou to Samarkand” was opened in Samarkand National Museum, Uzbekistan. It restored costumes, interpreted fabric patterns, introduced the origin and production of silk in China, and the spread and application of silk on the Silk Road.
The 2021 Annual Report of the Silk Road Cultural Heritage was officially released at the opening ceremony, which recorded and combed the cultural events, archaeological discoveries, exhibitions and academic achievements of the cultural heritage of the World Silk Road. At the same time, UNESCO and the China Silk Museum project “Special Collection of Cultural Interaction on the Silk Road: Textiles and Clothing” was also released. Xia Zehan, the representative and director of UNESCO’s representative office in China, said, “History is a map from the past, which guides us all the way forward in the new era. The project expands the historical network of the Silk Road in the online digital space, promotes diverse cultures closely related to the Silk Road through continuous communication, and promotes the folk and cultural ties between Asia and Europe. “
During the “2022 Silk Road Week”, the main venue in Hangzhou will hold a series of exhibitions, academic seminars and supporting social education activities. The exhibitions include “Colorful Reproduction: Exhibition of Textile Cultural Relics Protection and Restoration Achievements”, “A Long Journey to the Golden Clothes: Exhibition of Silk Road Costume Restoration in the 6th-8th Century”, “Dameizi: Selected Works of UNESCO Silk Road Youth Eye Photography Competition”, “National Treasure under Microscope: Microscopic Picture Exhibition of Cultural Relics Protection and Archaeological Science”, etc. At the same time, an academic seminar on “Archaeology and Historical Research of Qinghai Road on the Silk Road” focusing on Qinghai Road on the Silk Road and discussing the historical and cultural exchanges between Xianbei, Tuyuhun, Tubo, Sogdian and all ethnic groups in the Central Plains and a meeting of the Silk Road Archaeological Committee of China Archaeological Society will also be held; There are also a series of lectures on the theme of Silk Road, the night on the West Coast of the Taiwan Straits, and a wealth of social education activities such as handicraft courses and cultural tourism activities. This time, the guest province of Qinghai will also hold wonderful activities in Xining, Delingha, Dulan and other places, including “Dulan on the Silk Road: Retrospective Exhibition of the 40th Anniversary of Hot Water Archaeology” in dulan county Museum of Qinghai Province, and the seminar of curators of Silk Road Qinghai Road 2022 Silk Road Week, etc.
In addition, this year’s “Silk Road Week” specially set up the “Silk Road Qinghai Road Inspection Activity”, which organized a large number of experts and scholars to visit the important archaeological sites of the Silk Road in Delhi, Dulan, Xining and related museums. Through field visits, scholars’ voices and media reports, the historical significance and cultural value of the Silk Road Qinghai Road were once again discovered.
